Okay, now I’m confused (even more than before).
I was under the impression that SDMB was now free to all of us, and those who re-upped before it became free, just did so because their subs were about to run out, and to keep their charter membership, they needed to pay to avoid being set to non-charter.
What am I not understanding, y’all?

Well, let’s see what happens. Many things hang in the balance, and CM status is relatively minor, since board survival (in the context of CR survival, etc) takes precedence.
Yeah, my charter member status disappeared on me about a month back. Here’s to hoping it’s fixed by April!

I seem to have lost my Charter status today. I’m still a member, which is good. But I guess my name can be added to those who would like their Charter status back.
Being new, I never had it, so I don’t know what I “missed”

I just noticed, months after people started complaining that they’d lost their “charter member” status, that I’ve been downgraded, some time in the last few weeks (or maybe months–I don’t really check that often). Is this still going on? Why? Has anyone else recently been downgraded?
Remember, Jerry is working on things in the order he sees most important.
Getting Straight Dope Chicago up and running is more important. Getting the Barn Door up and running is more important. Anything to do with the Straight Dope TOS is the least important. Since the clear evidence is that having it be up and functional at any moment is an extremely low priority, mere usability is lower than low, and anything that involves pleasing the members is buried up to its neck.
It’s simple economic priorities. They’re just copying larger corporations, like GM, in rational planning for the future.

The implication, if Jerry’s still changing things around wth member’s status, is that they’re doing SOMETHING in that area. I just wonder why, if they’re not ignoring the “membership” entirely, as is implied by Harpo’s post, they’re getting more and more fucked up. This seems a strange way of fixing things, and it seems a stranger way of ignoring things.
From where are you inferring this implication?
The second post in thread to which Qadgob linked (which happens to be by Qadgop–he’s so self-centric, always drawing attention to himself :)) states that this has been an issue since the upgrade, You admitted that you haven’t checked your membership status in “maybe months”. What makes you think that Jerry has done anything with regards to membership status since the upgrade?
Perhaps reading the linked thread would make him think so. It certainly makes others think so.
