I’m an idiot!
When Phantom of the Opera (the ALW musical, not the book, I’m not THAT old) first came out, I was immediately hooked on the music. I read the books, I studied the libretto, I skipped my 8th grade field trip to see the show.
And now, it hits me that the chandelier was Lot #666! I mean, c’mon, that’s no coincidence. Yet I don’t really see the Satanic connection… sure, the plot’s about good and evil, but so is the plot of every other movie/book/play ever created.
Who would have the gall to send this?
Someone with a puerile brain!
These are both signed ‘O.G.’!
Who the hell is he?! Opera ghost!
It’s really not amusing
when he’s abusing our position
in addition he wants money
he’s a funny sort of spectre
to expect a large retainer
nothing plainer he is clearly quite insane!
Dear Firmin, just a brief reminder
my salary has not been paid.
Send it care of the ghost
by return of post
P.T.O. no one like a debtor
so it’s better my orders are obeyed.
Dear André
what a charming gala!
Christine enjoyed a great success!
We were hardly bereft when Carlotta left.
Otherwise
the chorus was entrancing
but the dancing
was a lamentable mess!
When I was in CA, KKBattousai and I went down to Universal City Walk, where we found a shop that sold little brass hand-crank music boxes. I got one that plays ‘The Music of the Night’. What I would have been absolutely tickled to find, though, was one that plays ‘Masquerade’, like the one the Phantom plays in the end. The melancholy verse he sings to that tune is one of my favourite parts of TPOTO:
Masquerade
Paper faces on parade
Masquerade
Hide your face so the world will never find you.
