Comin’ at ya, Lightnin’.
It’s actually for the 6[sup]th[/sup], BTW; I read 4[sup]th[/sup] on another board and didn’t have the email to verify.

My husband looked at the ‘lifetime subscription’ option. Apparently, Aussies aren’t eligible. Nor do we get the cheaper subscription rate. It’s US and Canada only.
It’s pretty twisted that they promote it to people who can’t take it up.
ROFL!!!
I too am interested in open beta invites.
Anyone who preorders online as opposed to going to their local Best Buy should be advised that some people–including me–are having trouble getting their pre-order game keys. Seems there are so many keys going out from certain sites that they’re getting blocked by spam filters. I had to call EBGames’ 800-number for my key.
I’m not sure if the email I received from GameSpot can be used more than once. You can try here or pick up a copy of PC Gamer.
I went out and boaut the may (!) issue of PCGamer. Am installing now (over the network, my desktop machine doen’t have a DVD drive)
I think one can start March 30 with the PCGamer install.

Nope, It is April 6. I really can’t justify buying the program, so I’ll have to wait until then.
I have activated my account. Not sure if one can update the app / data before April 6.

Is there a pvp system or is this strictly pve?
The only PvP system is there is a way you can play a monster (and I think there may be duel system)
Brian
There is PvP but it’s not your usual PvP. Once a player hits 14, they can access Monster classes, go into the Ettenmoors, and attack all the Men/Hobbits/Dwarves/Elves. This system eliminates the need to mess with the PvE classes in order to balance PvP.
On preview: I, too, heard of a Duel system.
I’m updating game data as I type.
The duel system is called sparring

p.s. as far as I can tell Silverlode seems to be the designated server for “old farts” (42 and older) I’m not qute that but close.
I’m happy with whatever server SDMB people choose.
Guess I should visit Silverlode
Mrs. D_Odds and I will be on whichever server houses the bulk of the SDMB. In the Stress Test, we were on Brandywine.
FYI, the official word is that there is no official word as to an ETA for the servers to go up for anyone who pre-ordered and can get into the beta today. “Sometime early this afternoon EST” is the best they’ll give.
Servers are up! (supposedly, I have to wait a week)
Brian
I’ve been updating for the past couple of hours…
I’d do the happydance for an open-beta invite, if those are still going around?
I finally was able to log in yesterday after a couple hours of fiddling around. My planned server, Brandywine had a waiting list, and I was pretty intent on playing, so I chose Silverlode.
Since there isn’t a consensus on where Dopers should play, I hereby nominate Silverlode.
Will be looking for Cecilians!
There is weirdness about European access to the servers. In America, there’s a magazine offering open-beta access. Check out Home | The Lord of the Rings Online. There is probably info on how they are handling you guys. Also, the forums likely have info on how Europeans can get invites.
I couldn’t get the character name that I wanted on all of the servers, try as I might. Not unusually, other people wanted my very favorite Sindarin-constructed name. Hardly anyone uses Adunaic though, haha!
So um. Silverlode sounds perfect, since I got my names there.
