Lott- A Case Study of Political Suicide?

Now that Senator Lott has appeared on BET, and said, among other things, that he is “absolutely” for affirmative action “across the board.” (Reference)

Has he doomed his political career? Or is a plausible recovery still in order? (Note: This may become GD worthy. Or not)

I don’t know anything at all about Senator Lott, but I would think that former Pennsylvania State Treasurer R Budd Dwyer would be a good example of a political suicide.
