Louis gave a good interview on Fresh Air, the other day, which promptly got Fresh Air cancelled from Mississippi Public Radio.
I’ve seen every episode so far, and though not every bit hits its mark, I like it a lot.
The poker scene was the best thing I’ve seen on television in a long time. I’d watch a show that was nothing but those guys sitting around a table talking.
What the hell?
I’m really enjoying Louie. I think it’s really well done. In fact, I like it much more than his stand up or Lucky Louie.
And that Fresh Air interview is fantastic.
I really dug Lucky Louie on HBO and almost expected a show on F/X to be more Seinfeldian, which it appears to be. I think it’s got a great start, and Louis CK is really funny and very talented. I’ve been using the DVR to get the shows, which is the first thing I’ve used the DVR for on a regular basis.
I just wanted to add I am am enjoying this show as well. And the theme is quite the earworm. It is stuck in my head RIGHT NOW!
I’ve been watching the show and have found it DVR-worthy. Scary psychologist is scary, however.
By the way, the actress who played the single mom in the last episode is the voice of Bobby Hill. You’re welcome.
She’s also great in “Californication.”
Pamela Adlon. She played the wife in Lucky Louie
I saw ads for the show but wasn’t very interested until I heard the Fresh Air interview (highly recommended). I found the show on FX On Demand and watched all four of them in a row. Pretty much what everyone’s said - funny, sad, cringe-inducing, funny, bleak, interesting. I’m still thinking about it today - can’t say that about too many tv shows I watch.
Between this and Justified, FX is hitting them out of the park.
Wasn’t she also his wife in Lucky Louie on HBO?
I love Louis CK. Stumbled across him by accident on Netflix instant watch and about died laughing. I just heard about his show yesterday when my husband reported the Fresh Air interview. I think we’ll be checking it out on Hulu soon.
What network is it airing on?
FX
Bumping this for the fifth episode, which was another winner. This show is really funny. Some of the bits on the airplane were a miss (or have just been done too many times before), but most of it was hilarious.
As someone who will immediately rolls his eyes when a stand-up goes into the “What’s the deal with airplane food?” mode, I have to say I laughed at a lot of that skit – part of it was his nonchalant attitude to everything happening around him: the fighting cabbies, the brain-dead ticket agent, the news about the crash, the fat guy sitting on top of him, the pilot’s (that was Louis’ voice-over, BTW) Mr. Subliminal routine, and to top it off – the “glass” of water!
I saw it as more of a meta-joke – it wasn’t about the indignities (explaining the purpose of the liquid), but about how routine it was for a guy who travels a lot.
Louis’ viral YouTube video, was partly about how we take the amazing stuff in our lives for granted, and this bit partly played on that.
It’s dark. It’s funny. It’s realistic in a way most TV shows aren’t.
Now I wish we hadn’t deleted the last episode we watched - I wanna watch the poker part again.
Good observations, I agree with everything you wrote. I thought at the beginning (when he laughs at the guy throwing a temper tantrum in the airport) that he was going to make a more explicit connection to the “everything is amazing” bit. It still worked the way he did it, and was probably better than rehashing that bit explicitly.
I love the comedian cameos.
Myq Kaplan (currently on this season’s Last Comic Standing was in this week’s episode (along with other comics, including Kurt Metzger, who was a previous contestant on Last Comic Standing this season.)
Was a fan of Lucky Louie and have been enjoying Louie as well.
On the documentary I Am Comic, Louis C.K. was praised as one of the most prolific comics in the business, coming up with a whole new 90 minute set every year.
