Love means eating your beloved's comfort food

I guess I’m fairly lucky, my SO’s comfort food is chocolate, or mashed potato, made with spring onions, which is nice.

I, on the other hand, need cheese on toast. Which he hates!

Tapioca pudding is my comfort food. My SO, who is a wonderful and daring cook, usually jazzes up sweet but bland dessert with accents, new flavors, etc. But he graciously forgoes experimentation on my tapioca. He makes it perfectly, with just vanilla and a little nutmeg, if I’m feeling racy. He’s a good’un.

Oh, yeah, Baby. Squishy orange goodness. YUM.

One of my comfort foods is cheese-pickle-toast. Basically you make thickly buttered toast, then cover it with cheese slices, and add dill pickle slices. Yummy!
Another is Campbell’s Chicken Noodle soup, with plenty of black pepper in it,and Ritz crackers,or a poached egg (with a soft yolk) on buttered milktoast, with salt and a bit of pepper. Mmmmmm…

My GF’s comfort food is congee, which I find to be quite effective comfort food too (I don’t seem to have one of my own).

Turnip cake actually looks quite tasty to me.

My husband and I have the same comfort food – boxed mac and cheese made extra creamy with double butter, 1.5 times the called for milk, and a nice hunk of cream cheese thrown in for good measure. Then topped with some garlic powder (I know!) and black pepper and doused with a bit of Tabasco.

I never make the boxed stuff unless we’re digging comfort, otherwise it’s the real stuff, three cheeses and baked for an hour. But it works, and we each keep finding improvements for the process that suit us both. There’s also the peanut butter and jelly with cheddar cheese on toast. That’s another one we conspired on together.

As for the OP – have either you or wife considered that it might taste better if made with real chicken? I’m not a meat-eater, but the idea of eating canned meat is repulsive to me from a gourmand perspective. How could it have any taste?

I’ve heard of congee, but don’t know what it is? Can you tell me what it is, ** SciFiSam ** ? Maybe link a recipie? I like to try different kinds of food. I’ve tried sushi, and like it. Especially the octopus, and spring rolls. Wasabi…mmmmm.

Pho. Vietnamese beef noodle soup. My husband is as yet unwilling to spend several hours making it when I get sick. We’re gong to work on that.
