Love + Pregnancy Songs

(That was the song in the OP, which was non-descriptive.)

What, really?

Not explicitly. But if you read the lyrics: Heart - All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You lyrics | LyricsFreak

What it says to me is that she purposely got knocked up by this one night stand because the man she loved wasn’t able to do it. I know, stupid beyond belief, but I can’t read it any other way.

Cinderella” by Firefall. Not a happy song.

Little Little by Jenny Morris

Excuse the bad synching between audio and video. But in terms of a song about pregnancy and love, I can’t think of a song that expresses it more perfectly.

Well, I don’t see that it’s “stupid beyond belief.”

But I can easily read it metaphorically. The something she got could be emotional or passionate rather than literally a pregnancy.

Lonnie, is that you? I thought we thrashed this out once before.

Ready or Not by Jackson Browne.

Do you folks feel more “biology” or “love” from these songs?

I get more “biology” feel as if I’m observing another species.

Gotcha.

People are lucky when I respond to the OP, and not just the thread title. Looks like I’ll now have to start clicking links as well… :frowning:

Jodeci, Forever My Lady

I actually heard this on the radio this morning, and here’s the thread popping up again, so here are the lyrics that caused me to come to the conclusion it belongs in this thread:

I am the flower, you are the seed
We walked in the garden, we planted a tree

Then it happened one day, we came round the same way
Imagine his surprise when he saw his own eyes
I said please please understand
I’m in love with another man
And what he couldn’t give me
Was the one little thing that you can

The Wikipedia entry also backs up this interpretation.
“Stupid beyond belief” because there are a number of better ways to solve this problem!

To be fair, there’s no citation in the Wikipedia article to that interpretation, so it’s just someone’s opinion. I can see how that interpretation is possible, but I can also see how a less literal interpretation is also possible.

I don’t think I would be to interested in a song about in vitro fertilization. Infidelity and cuckolding are a basic element of the human experience and will constantly turn up in all forms of art.

Kate Bush’s This Woman’s Work was written for John Hughes’ film She’s Having A Baby. It is used in a really emotional part of the film, where Elizabeth McGovern is in the middle of a difficult delivery.

Maxwell later covered the song.
