Love Quotes

Well, you see I was at the mall recently and I saw all sorts of cute asian stationary. You know, the type with the adorable little asian girls that play every sport known to man and look CUTE while doing it? The type with all the little cartoon-ish character.
Well, I noticed that they have really sweet quotes at the bottom, in really bad english but what can you expect?

My question to you:
What are your favorite love quotes?

An example: “The course of true love never did run smooth” Lysander, A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Thanks in advance.

One hour of right-down love
Is worth an age of dully living on.

-Aphra Behn

Here are some of my favs…

“The more you love, the more you can love - and the more intensely you love. Nor is there any limit on how many you can love. If a person had enough time, he could love all of that majority who are decent and just.” - Robert A. Heinlein

You never lose by loving, you lose by holding back.

Someone loves you far more then you know with a love that keeps growing as days come and go. Somebody needs you to make life worthwhile… Needs your warm touch and the joy of your smile.

I don’t want to lose you, I could never make it alone. I am the man who will fight for your honor, I’ll be the hero your dreaming of, we’ll live forever. growing together and we did it all for the glory of love.

“Love doesn’t make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.” - Franklin P. Jones

FYI the ones without names by them I have no clue who said them.

I think this is from a song by Chicago

There is no sorrow like a love denied
Nor any joy like love that has its will.
-Richard Hovey

Now, if only I can ever experience that second part…

May you love as long as you live and live as long as you love.

Robert A. Heinlein

Hey where’s the guy they kept warning the newbies about that quotes Shakespeare? Wouldn’t it be logical for him to show up?

Doubt thou the stars are fire,
Doubt the sun doth move
Doubt truth to be a liar,
but never doubt thy love.
Hamlet

A guy acctually wrote this to me, and it blew me away:

“Everytime I’ve told you I love you, I’ve thought it a thousand times in my head, and felt it a million times in my heart.”

swoons!

“If we are truly meant to be, we will find our way back to each other.”

It’s a quote from Dawson’s Creek, but my boyfriend said it to me after I dumped him the first time. And we did find our way back to each other, and now we are better together than we ever were then.

No man is worth your tears, the only man who is will never make you cry.

Does anyone know where this is from or what the proper wording is? I find it so sweet.

Somebody once told me he’d burn all the boats in San Francisco Bay before he ever lost touch with me.

I haven’t heard about any burning incidents on the news, Bay Area Dopers, can you verify?

Track down a poem called True Love by Sharon Olds, if you can.

Belle amie, ainsi est de nous,
Ni vous sans moi, ni moi sans vous.

–from “Le Lai du Chèvrefeuille” by Marie de France (12[sup]th[/sup] Century C.E.)

bibliophage, care to give us a translation?

But I won’t let that stop me from trying to translate it:

My beautiful love, so it is between us,
that there is no you without me, nor me without you.

“Into love and out again,
Thus I went and thus I go.
Spare your words and hold your pen—
Well and bitterly I know
All the songs were ever sung,
All the words were ever said;
Could it be, when I was young,
Someone dropped me on my head?”

—Dorothy Parker

“Love is the crocodile on the river of desire.”

When my wife and I were still dating, I updated this to, “Love is the pitbull on the street of desire.”

Not sure where the original comes from, although I have the idea in the back of my mind that it’s Egyptian somehow.

See sig line.

  1. The lyrics to “Unchained Melody.”

  2. The entire play “Cyrano de Bergerac.”

  3. Anything anyone has ever said in Paris.

My favorite “Love” quote is when the announcer says “Love-fifteen” during a tennis match.

As they say, love is blind…and deaf, and dumb, and frequently stupid.

Why does that quote have to be so true?
