Everybody’s aunt (or grandmother, or mother, or nanny, otr whatever) makes better biscuits. That is just a fact. Hell, I’d put my biscuits up against theirs, and I’d win, because mine are here now in my kitchen and not halfway across the country!
I had country ham with biscuits at Loveless Cafe back in 1993. The main thing I remember is how terribly salty the ham was. Country ham is supposed to be soaked before cooking to leach out the salt. It was as if they just cut off a slice and fried it. I don’t remember what the biscuits were like.
Never had better biscuits anywhere. But I’m originally from the UK, so it is to be expected that I don’t have a family member with the best biscuit recipe ever.
It’s one of those things where, yeah, I know they’re supposed to be good, but since I live in Nashville, I can go anytime…so I haven’t, yet. Same thing as the Opry. One of these days I’ll get around to it, probably when I have out-of-town guests.
Got to happen! Reservations required, but that could get the eating part over with and we could adjourn to some other place close.
Our only visits there have been with out-of-towners we meant to impress. Or wedding rehearsals and graduations sorts of things. But a Dopefest would be amazing!
My wife doesn’t like the idea of me attending Dopefests – I guess because you’re all on the internet, you must be pedophiles or social misfits or scammers. Which makes my username ironic.
Skammer - well, we may be social misfits…but unless you’re a child (in which case, I wonder about your wife!), pedophilia shouldn’t be your worry. And you can only scam someone willing to be scammed.
While it’s true you can soak the ham to reduce the saltiness a true country ham aficionado just fries it straight. You don’t want to mess too much with a really good ham.
I grew up in Nashville, not far from Loveless Cafe.
Sunday brunch was a treat, and they have the best fried chicken in the USA.
Well, they did. I haven’t been in a while. I’m glad to see it’s still there going strong.
