Low carb diet for 4 weeks - Anyone care to join me? [Continung discussion]

Protein pancakes are delicious - better if you add a scoop of protein powder, eggs and some coconut or almond flour (you can blend in a banana if you are not straight KETO), or cottage/ricotta if you are so inclined.

Use coconut oil in the pan, not too hot. Done

I’m sure they are. But they need to be able to be flipped.

I made a chocolate cheesecake last night for my daughter’s 18th birthday today. Low carb? Not exactly. Tonight I will enjoy a small slice (without any guilt) after some delicious homemade Peruvian ceviche and other healthy and delicious culinary birthday requests that she had.
I walked to work this morning. My walk from home to downtown is 4 miles with a combination of hills and flat terrain. More walking tonight, hopefully!

Have a good day, people!

Yeah, my gf cannot get the flip down, so she has me do it.

Spatula under the cake. In one fluid motion, drop pan down (instead of lifting cake), and flip the cake while simultaneously bringing the pan back up.

I’m very good at flipping. It’s just that the cakes were structurally unsound.

I started a post yesterday, but it got eaten. Anyhoo. Moving into Day 2, I noticed how hungry I was, even at times when I’m not usually hungry. I’m hoping this is just my body adjusting to the new regime. It sucked. I did fairly well on the plan yesterday, except at Day’s end, when we went out to a belated Mother’s Day dinner. I did fine on the meal, but I succumbed to some shortcake with strawberries at the end.

Is anyone else doing intermittent fasting with this?

Hey, we all know the coconut oil trick to lowering the glycemic index and calories in rice, right? If not, here’s a good article to check out: Low Carb Rice? How to Hack Your Rice With Coconut Oil

I did very badly today. Stressed out.

Dinner last night: Beef bologna sandwich with mayonnaise on Sara Lee Delightful low-carb/low-Calorie wheat bread.

Breakfast: 1.5 eggs, scrambled with chopped onions and tomatoes, with Tabasco on two low-carb tortillas.

Lunch: An avocado with some mayonnaise.

I messed up today as well. I had a piece of cake at the office :(. My plan is to his the elliptical machine for an hour later this evening to burn off some of the sugars.

I need to come up with a new breakfast. Three eggs each morning seems perfect appetite-wise, but it’s putting my iron and fat intake through the roof.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Peanut butter toast on Dave’s Killer Bread? Yeah, it brings the carbs but it’s also 5gm of fiber per slice, and about as complex a carbohydrate as is possible to find in this naughty world. One slice of that and I am set for the day.

Try 3 eggs, but only use 2 of the yolks - dump the 3rd yolk down the drain. You won’t notice much of a difference in taste, if any.

A carton of egg whites might be more convenient.

I do calorie counting with a protein goal. However, good luck everyone. My only advice is that if this is long term for anyone then habit formation, IMO, is the key.

I’m planning on eating <500 calories one day a week just to help ensure weight loss. I did this on Day 1. I’m not as firm on this part of the plan, so I’ll see how it goes.

Anyway, Day 3 is in the books. I’ve been very strict, haven’t veered off course at all. I am so looking forward to Monday’s weigh-in.

It’s only been 3 days, but I absolutely feel much better than I have in months.

To those who have strayed, don’t get discouraged, and don’t quit! Jumping back on the wagon is allowed; encouraged, in fact.
mmm

Yes I’m doing 16/8

It’s not temporary for me, (due to multiple autoimmune issues), but I’ve had to get strict with a low-carb, anti-inflammatory diet since April. I also do intermittent fasting. It’s the only way I can feel human anymore. I need to lose weight, but can’t, even eating this way. Herds of us middle-aged Hashimotos women will roam the planet after famine has wiped the rest of you out.

I crave and eat a lot of raw, shredded cabbage seasoned and dressed with unfiltered apple cider vinegar. Makes the gut happy and helps with cravings for crunchy things, since grains and nuts are out for me.

As someone who has been flirting with type ii diabetes for years, I just wanted to note that going to very low carb and high fat has literally reversed this. Doctors always noted that my fasting glucose level was too high (115 to 125). Those were my highest daily readings when I did plain old low carb. (I believe this is called the dawn phenomenon.)

After a week or so of doing the very low carb and high fat, this morning it was 91. A couple of hours after a meal when eating this way, it’s below 90.

I haven’t seen numbers like this since I was in my 30s.

I call that a good thing.

My experience with dieting and losing weight – any temporary diets resulted in temporary results. The only time I’ve had permanent results (still going, though I’m pushing to lose another 15 lbs or so) was with a permanent change in diet. Which has lead me to the following rule (when dieting for weight loss and general health) – any diet change should be permanent, or else there’s no point in doing so.

I think there’s a psychological benefit to setting a time-limited trial on a significant dietary change. That gives you a chance to try it on for size without feeling the pressure to go all-in long term but a little incentive to stick with it for a while.
