Some were calling BS on the lawsuit about the Lower Merion School District spying with webcams. The report is back from their own internal investigation, only 58,000 pictures.
Note: This may seem pretty tame for the Pit but the original thread was here, so I put this update here also.
It’s probably worse than the report says. The report to the school board was researched and prepared by the law firm that the board hired to defend against the parents’ lawsuits. Even considering that, it’s pretty damming.
At the very least the county prosecutor should take a careful look at the whole mess to see if any laws were violated.
In this whole time I haven’t seen any comments at all about whether microphones may have been turned on and/or audio recordings made. Hopefully because it wasn’t done, but OTOH the laws about audio recordings and privacy are considerably stricter in many places, so if they did that but no one has complained yet, they probably wouldn’t just come out and admit it unprompted,
I agree, this was watered down to the extent they can and the scapegoats have been identified etc. Guaranteed, there will be more to come and we will find out that some of the pictures are pretty questionable (after the parents of the students review them).
I don’t think there is audio otherwise there would be no question about wiretap laws.
That, and it would put a lie to their whole story. If it’s just periodically sent cam captures, and not video, there couldn’t be audio. A 1/10th second camera shot is a picture. A 10th second audio clip is a yip.
