Is this the most boring national championship game in history? I am truly asking, as there isn’t a thread yet and we’re in the third quarter. I know, I know…no one is watching. Me included…again, which is why I’m asking. By the scoring I see, it sure looks that way.
Maybe I’ll have interest in college football when you actually have to play your way to a championship rather than be who a bunch of people THINK are worthy of a shot. Ugh.
I’m not watching it; I’ve no interest. I’ll read about it in the paper in the morning, or possibly online tonight if it’s over before I go to bed. That’s about all I care.
I just looked at the score on espn.com and read the comments (since I refuse to contribute to the ratings). And I just have to say “L-O-freaking-L”. Serves the BCS right. I hope the game gets shitty ratings on top of a terrible performance.
For the life of me, I can’t understand how a team like LSU could have made it to this game, much less enjoyed unparalleled success during the season like they’ve had, with virtually no passing game.
I’m watching for the potential shutout. I don’t care that Alabama has one of the best defenses in the country, LSU should have been able to get into field goal range once.
This game is terrible. I’m rooting for Alabama only for the inevitable BCS clusterfuck.
7:30 into the final quarter before a touchdown is scored? I’m waiting with bated breath for SEC apologists to pile in here and start crowing about defense. Bullshit. Defense != unable to execute offense.
Congratulations, BCS. It looks like your MNC is a team that couldn’t defend its own house in the regular season.
Right after Oklahoma State. Or better yet, the AP voters could contrive to have Oregon and Oklahoma State tie, and we could have three claimants. That would be satisfying.
I watched one play…the fumbled snap by LSU on the first series. Then I changed the channel and went to do something better with my life. Glad I did. DI football is a joke. How hard would it be to have a 16 team playoff with each conference champion get an autobid and the rest be at large bids. Easy as pie. You go undefeated, you win the national title. Period. There would only ever be one undefeated team, and in years where there were no undefeated teams, the champion would have played through to claim the crown. Gee…novel concept…oh wait, it’s one that EVERY OTHER SPORT at EVERY OTHER LEVEL does.
A team which doesn’t win it’s conference or even it’s division wins the national championship. Pathetic. I’ll venture to say no one outside of SEC country (and ESPN) much of cared about this game.
Play a relatively weak schedule.
Lose the only meaningful game you play all season.
Don’t win your conference.
Don’t even win your division.
Make it to the title game.
Profit.
The one good thing I can take away is that there will definitely be some changes in store for the BCS.
I’m for a tournament, but it wasn’t going to happen this year. I just wish I could have seen these two top defenses matched up against top offenses. As long as you’re playing exhibition games you might as well schedule good match ups.
The SEC haters around the country can kiss my ass. Awesome game, dominating defense, and six in a row for the best conference in college football.
ROLL TIDE!
As this year’s bowl games go this one was pretty pathetic. Hurray for defenses, but still . . .
Baylor, MSU and several others showed a lot more heart and spirit.
Bottom line, Saban is a far better coach than Miles. Saban was ready to take this thing.
Secondary consideration: When are football coaches going to take kickers seriously? There are at least a dozen or more better kickers in college football than the guy from Bama. He missed two makables and missed an extra point. Yea, it didn’t matter but still.
Kickers are usually the highest scorers on the team. Tonight’s game could have been put away way earlier. The all-time point scorer in the NFL is a kicker (Morton Anderson). Ray Guy, probably the most formidable punter of all time isn’t in the HOF. A great punter can mean more to field position in terms of yards differential as a good running back.
