Every now and then, people while dreaming realize that they’re dreaming. Now, I’ve read about exorcises to allow you to controll this, but do lucent dreaming exorcises really work?
A little research confirms that you probably mean “lucid” not “lucent.” You could ask a mod to change it, but it probably doesn’t matter. It’s just that if you already tried to google this, you’ll probably get better results now.
I opened this thread thinking it would be about having visions of telecommunications while you slept.
Damn! I thought that something was wrong, but when I did a quick Google just to check the spelling, it didn’t try to correct me.
Anyway, I Googled before but all I get is how-to’s. What I want to know is if any of it actually works or not.
Sure. Haven’t you ever heard “Silent Lucidity”?
i was on serotonin this time last year, and i had several VERY lucid dreams. there was a feeling of control, but not to the extent that i could do anything that wouldn’t have happened otherwise.
i discontinued the medication because i couldn’t handle the dreams.
anyway, do NOT go to your doctor for serotonin just to experiment with lucid dreaming.
there are other heavier side effects.
Hey Mods, or Admins, can you please change lucent to lucid for me? Thanks.
I bought 100 shares of Lucent for about $55 a few years ago - I had some sort of bizarre dream where I thought “Hey, they’ve already lost half their value! How much more can it go down? After all, these are the Bell Labs people, the brains who gave us the transistor (1948), the laser (1965), discovered the Big Bang (1965), and have 7 Nobel prizes among their employees! Why, this company is seriously undervalued!”
Turned out to be more of a nightmare. I finally dumped it in disgust at $7 (against all reason, but hell: I was pissed. Never took a pounding like that in the stock market before.) Now I dream … “Transistor is 50 years old, the Laser is 35, and there is no commercial applicability to the Big Bang. What the hell was I thinking?”
Lucid dreaming is sometimes triggered by a specific symbol in your dream or action, for example… if you start to fly or float in your dreams. Start out by telling yourself you’d like to have a lucid dream and keep thinking about lucid dreams before you fall asleep (sometimes it will stay in your mind). If you do become aware that you are dreaming, try to make a direct change to the dream. Actively seek out something you want to have or you want to happen. It doesn’t always happen but if you keep thinking about being able to affect your dream content or action, it may help.
These are tips from some books that I’ve read but I don’t try to have lucid dreams on purpose. They happen occasionally for me and sometimes I can really affect the action. Good luck and NO, I’m not a fruitloop!
Try renting Waking life
It’s about lucid dreams, existencialism and something else. Cool movie.
Please, do not rent Vanilla Sky, it blows. You might try Abre los Ojos, though.
I do it quite often. I learned how to do it by accident when I was a teenager. It takes a lot of effort, though.
As I lay in bed, I count down from 100. But as I count, I visualize the numbers. Like a digital watch display. It focuses my mind, and it’s also relaxing, like counting sheep. But the exercise of the visualization helps keep the consciousness alert, and as I drift off, I’m still kind of awake. Soon, I’m sleeping, but still “awake”. The problem is, that it takes a tremendous amount of energy to “control” your dream, because you have to write the script as it’s happening.
But Jessica Alba said it was the best sex she’d ever had.
You leave my Jessica out of this!
