Lucid Dreaming

Years ago, with a jam full schedule, and little time to sleep, I had a 30 minute period where I could sneak a quick nap. During that time, I felt like I was asleep, and began to dream, but something took over, and while I was dreaming, I was aware that I was dreaming. I could control the dream, as far as, who, what, where, etc,…and it was kewl. I’ve occasionally been able to replicate this experience, although, in a “normal” state of mind (read “sober”) I find it quite exhausting, due to the fact that one must constantly be formulating the next scenario, and wake up feeling the effects of the mental workout. I later read in an article that others have experienced the same phenomena, and wonder if any of you have, and what you’re thoughts are. I’m going to sleep now…or AM I…

I’m sure a few will check in as several mention it in these threads:

P.S. Yep, I’ve done it a few times. I wish I could gain the skill to take over the nightmares as well as the pleasant dreams.

Thanks for the heads up Abby, sorry to be repetitive, being a relative virgin here, I’ll try to do better in the future. At least, I’ll dream to…you guys ROCK.

Hey, I wasn’t fussing or implying you should change anything, none of those threads were an IMHO poll like you’re started here. I hope you get lots of responses, it wasn’t my intent to kill your thread.

Well well well, I thinkI may have some info you your guyus that you may like a lot, especially if you enjoy lucid dreaming. I was in a Cognitive Processes class back in College and my teacher brought out this little machine one day that called the “Lucid Dream Machine” Here’s how it works. The device itself looks like one of those black masks that one wears over their eyes whilst sleeping. BUt instead of a soft padded innocuous(sp?) little mask this mask actually induced lucid dreams. The machine itself was located on your bedstand or where ever, and on the mask itself, there was a little tiny antenna and over each eye there was a tiny red light. it was hidden in the fabric and what the machine did was detect when you entered your R.E.M sleep cycle.

During R.E.M sleep your body is completely catatonic and your brain waves switch from beta waves to theta waves. You could not move even if you tried. Anyway back to the lucid dreaming…When you enter this sleep state the sensors detect when you go into REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep and the red light flashes instantaniously and you will be successfully woken up in side of your dream. You will not physically wake up, because you can’t, your brain is opperating in a theta state and you are dreaming. Anyway you wake up in your dream and you can successfully manipulate and altar what you are dreaming, whilst still feeling every sensation of all of your senses.

You know when you first wake up in the morning you can say wow what a real dream I just had, I could smell the roses and feel the sand under my feet etc…etc… or whatever you dream…Well that last dream you had was the longest of the night and the most memorable. It is whilst you are dreaming that the lucidity begins.

So this machine is offered through the lucidity institute [sorry no cite, I’ll find one, or just do a google search] The one draw back is the base model costs $1500 USD the last time I looked. So, thats the story, sorry for any spelling errors but I am in a bit of a rush. I did try the machine incidently and it was wonderful. Have fun.

OH YEAH and for the OP, yes you were lucid dreaming.

I would experience very lucid dreams whenever I smoked sheesha. Which was kind of a bonus. And lucid dreaming is about the only exciting thing to [sub]legally[/sub] do in Saudi Arabia other than scuba diving.
