I guess I’m still not clear on the concept. Why should I care what Ludacris thinks any more than I care what James Dobson thinks?
The “wheelchair” comment was a play on Bush being “mentally handicapped.” Besides, it’s a fucking rap song. It’s supposed to be hyperbolic.
You’ll have to explain why that’s a reason not to vote for him. Why is Obama responsible for what Ludacris says in a rap song? I like Mel Gibson as a movie director, does that mean I’m responsible for his anti-semitic statements?
You don’t have to… very few Dopers will.
Fortunately, many Average Hardworking Americans will.
Too bad Obama decided it was good politics to call a Fucking Rapper a Great Talent then wasn’t it?
You mean those hard working white people that Hillary was talking about?
Guess what, anyone who would give a shit about this was already going to vote for McCain anyway. It’s an extremely lame issue that isn’t going to affect a single vote. It’s just more manufactured outrage. If you really want to play this game, though, McCain spoke well of and sought the endorsement of a guy who said that Hitler was fulfilling God’s will.
Why is that “too bad,” and what makes you think Obama doesn’t really believe it? Are you saying rappers can’t be talented? Ludacris is a lot more talented than clowns like Toby Keith, that’s for sure.
But why? Why, precisely, is some song by some musician a reason to not vote for Obama?
And, for bonus points, how is that different in quality from a potential cabinet member referring to the Average Hardworking American as a “nation of whiners”?
You already know you’re taking this out of context. Why do you persist?
I think we’ve found some common ground here.
I recall various previous presidents referring to Frank Sinatra as a great talent, although he appears to have had the morals of a tomcat and the self-control of a two-year-old along with a truly immature adulation of mob thugs. I would say that Sinatra had great talent, as well.
I have no idea why a comment on a person’s artistic ability overlaps in any way with one’s judgment of their politics, morals, intelligence, or any other attribute.
Do you have a valid reason to conflate artistic estimation with political estimation? Or are you simply trying to be snide without actually having a serious point?
Basically, IMO, for some folks, Ludacris is a reinforcement of what they’ve “known” all along: that Obama hates America and white people. They’ve already been judging him, as has been pointed out, by the company he keeps (Wright, Ayers, Rezko), so this is just another variant on the theme.
And, as has already been pointed out, completely ignored when it’s someone like Dobson. But hey, we knew this would happen, considering how some bloggers were crowing about how much the terrorists luv them Democrats when they took over the House and Senate.
I’m no fan of Toby Keith or country music in general so I’m not familiar with his music.
Did he write a song calling Michelle Obama a bitch and saying that the Boy Wonder should be in a wheel chair?
So, to join the chorus, what the hell is your point already? (I’m charitably assuming there is one.) Are you saying that Obama should have known two years ago that Ludacris was going to write this song and thus refrained from offering some boilerprint praise after meeting with him about youth issues? Are you saying Obama should tell Ludacris “don’t vote for me because you support me?”
Why the caps? Is that some sort of organization?
Organization?
AHA!
What if he did and he endorsed McCain? Would it matter? No. The answer is no.
Slightly off topic but Ludacris sounds like a character from an old British Sitcom set in Roman times called Up Pompeii.
