Lynn Bodoni’s pit rule thread isn’t sticky. In fact, it’s quite buried, where new users are unlikely to find them. Does that mean they’re no longer applicable? If a new user posts “Pulling up a lawn chair to watch the fireworks”, would they be warned with a cite from a rule from a thread that’s now buried hundreds of pages deep in the Pit? I know “ignorance of the rules is not an excuse for breaking them”, but still, shouldn’t the rules be more visible for the benefit of those that joined the SDMB after 2005?
Is there any comprehensive list of ALL of the SDMB rules? Unlike other message boards, the rules of the SDMB are scattered all over the place.
Ed Zotti’s sticky post at http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=507985 describes itself as “Revised Forum Rules for the BBQ Pit: read this before posting”. It’s dated nearly 7 years after Lynn Bodoni’s post. Wouldn’t it have replaced all the rules in the earlier post?
I am not a Pit mod, but it is my understanding that the only Pit rules in effect currently are those stickied at the top of the forum. Specifically, the “lawn chair” rule is no longer in effect.
As Gfactor notes, the rules for each forum are stickied at the top of the forum. There are different rules for the different forums, and that’s why there’s no “one place” for all the rules. The Board rules that apply to all forums are stickied in ATMB.
You’d think so, but after Ed’s rules went up, Lynn re-stickied her rules and (IIRC) said that they were back in effect. Protests occured and they were unsticked.
