lyrics to songs that you can relate to

I always envied the guys being eschewed by the cheerleaders.

“I’m the Urban Spaceman”, “Sport” by Bonzo Dog Band.
I don’t know about this newer stuff…

“I am a rock, I am an island…and a rock feels no pain, and an island never cries.” – Simon and Garfunkel

“If I were you, I wouldn’t treat me the way you do.” – Pet Shop Boys (forget which song…from the “Introspective” album.)

The Beatles- Rubber Soul

There are places I remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have there moment
With lovers and friend
I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I’ve loved them all

“Only when he no longer knows what he is doing, does the painter do good
things.” --Edgar Degas

The quote you gave is from the album “Rubber Soul”. The name of the song is actually “In My Life”. Pretty lyrics though.

“Most people would succeed in small things, if they were not troubled with
great ambitions.”

  • Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882)

" You know I’d sooner forget but I remember those nights
When life was just a bet on a race between the lights
You had your head on my shoulder you had your hand in my hair
Now you act a little colder like you don’t seem to care…

But believe in me baby and I’ll take you away
From out of this darkness and into the day
From these rivers of headlights these rivers of rain
From the anger that lives on the streets with these names
'Cos I’ve run every red light on memory lane
I’ve seen desperation explode into flames
And I don’t wanna see it again…

From all of these signs saying soory but we’re closed

All the way… down the telegraph road "

Dire Straits - Telegraph Road (from the Love over Gold album, 1982)
I really don’t know why these lines appeal to me so much. But they do. I think melancholy is the word…

“You know how complex women are”

  • Neil Peart, Rush (1993)

Well, the first two that popped into my mind were “Iris” and Pearl Jam’s “Black”, but since those are taken already I’ll go with Radiohead:

“I don’t care if it hurts
I want to have control, I want a perfect body
I want a perfect soul, I want you to notice
When I’m not around
Yeah you’re so very special
I wish I was special
But I’m creep, I’m a weirdo
What the hell am I doing here?
I don’t belong here”
-Radiohead, Creep

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

“This is how it seems to me, life is only therapy, real expensive and no guarantee.”

-Garth Brooks, You Move Me

“Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose”

“Believe those who seek the truth.
Doubt those who find it.” --Andre Gide

“Urban Spaceman” is by the Bonzo Dog Band?

Aha! I have heard them after all! I recognized a lot of the other bands in that thread, but couldn’t quite place them…

I gotta shake myself and wonder
Why she even bothers me
For if heartaches were commercials
We’d all be on TV

John Prine, Come Back To Us Barbara Lewis Hare Krishna Beauregard

"I am the egg man

"I am the walrus

“Koo-koo ka-choob”

Absolutely.

Those who do not learn from the past are condemned to relive it. Georges Santayana

The song I can most relate to is one that my best friend and I made up last night waiting for the police to show up at my car. It goes a little something like this:

Somebody tried to steal my car
They sure didn’t get too far.
Why’d they leave my door ajar?
I don’t know where my condoms are!

The meaning behind the song:

Line 1: Someone tried to steal my car
Line 2: I am the only person on the planet who knows how to make it start and STAY running.
Line 3: The door was closed, but they had unlocked it. It just rhymed nicely.
Line 4: I had some condoms and lube in my glovebox, from the sex/alcohol/drug awareness day in the SU. Apparently the thieves liberated the condoms from my vile grasp. Along with a spare headlight. Pathetic bastards.

We are the children of the Eighties. We are not the first “lost generation” nor today’s lost generation; in fact, we think we know just where we stand - or are discovering it as we speak.

don’t Give up by Peter Gabriel
“when times get rough
you can fall back on us
don’t give up, please don’t give up”
