M. Le Petomane

Your excellent bit on Monsieur Bujol, aka Le Petomane http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a1_394 was entertaining to read. I have read in a couple of places that this gentleman, who would entertain audiences at the Moulin Rouge by farting, the way other performers entertain by singing, was the highest-paid entertainer in the history of France at the turn of the 20th century. (I didn’t see the movie Moulin Rouge–did it feature this guy?)

No, M. le Pétomane didn’t appear in Moulin Rouge, unfortunately.

Oddly enough, La Petomane was listed in the credits of Moulin Rouge—but he must have been (pardon the expression!) cut from the final edit.

His only biography may be found via bookfinder: http://www.bookfinder.com/search/?st=sl&ac=sl&qi=Yj0p3KvMFprDZsbCMIFBOIcYj0C0.oFB:0:0

I guess everyone knows this, but Mel Brooks played Governor William J. Le Petomane in Blazing Saddles.
