I recently bought a used, refurbished MacBook Air (2020, Sequoia 15.4.1) right before I changed jobs and cities, and I had no occasion to need a printer for about two months. That changed, and I bought the cheapest printer my local store sold, a Canon Pixma MG2400 series, which cost about 40 bucks in the local (Korean) currency.
I downloaded a driver, but my Mac won’t accept it; the message says “Apple could not verify ‘PrinterDriver_MG2400 series_110701.pkg’ is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy.” I tried to install from the disk that came with the printer, but same deal. It accepts the scanner software, but not the printer. Poking around a little, it appears this OS doesn’t recognize or accept anything earlier than MG3000 from Canon.
I’ve been pairing MacBooks and Canon printers for a while now, but this one has me stumped. I could just take the $40 loss with my usual good grace, but the next cheapest printer this store sells is considerably pricier. Is there some simple way of getting my computer to recognize and accept this particular driver software? Thanks in advance.
I assume you have downloaded the latest drivers from Canon.
I am not a Mac guy but I found this:
To bypass this security warning and install the driver package, you have a few options:
The simplest method is to right-click (or Control+click) on the package file and select “Open” from the context menu. When prompted, click “Open” again. This tells macOS you trust this specific file despite the warning.
If that doesn’t work, you can adjust your security settings temporarily:
Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security
Scroll down to the “Security” section
Look for a message about the blocked package and click “Open Anyway”

This is what I was hoping for, but got the following message: “This software cannot be installed as it does not support the version of your current OS.”

In this case I would recommend returning the printer and getting one that is supported.
Maybe there is a way around it, you could emulate an older OS or something, but that’s a lot of work. Best to get a supported printer. Apple seems keen on AirPrint printers now wireless). That’s not to say nothing else will work but this is what Apple likes. Here is their supported list:
Here is a list of supported printers using a USB connection (goes to the same page but puts you in the USB section):
Have you selected the right OS version when downloading the drivers? When I go to the Canon website (Support - PIXMA MG2470 - Canon South & Southeast Asia) it requires me to select the OS version before I can download. The file for v 15 has a different name from the one you mentioned.
