Machines of Loving Grace fans: Help me use my Pepsi caps

I have a handful of Pepsi bottle caps with free iTunes songs burning a hole in my pocket, and I am trying to Broaden My Musical Horizons.

I’d like to get something from Machines of Loving Grace, who perform one of my favorite songs from the Crow soundtrack, “Golgotha Tenement.”

The reason I love “Golgotha” is the amazing sumptuous of it, from the slinky bass line to the backing choir in the chorus.

I can’t listen to it without wanting to writhe in the most unbecoming manner.

iTunes has the albums Gilt and Concentration. What are your favorite songs from those albums? Which songs from those albums, in your opinion, have the same traits I liked from “Golgotha Tenement”?

I am not a big fan of the band, but I do remember really liking a song of theirs off of “Gilt” called “[http://www.letssingit.com/machines-of-loving-grace-kiss-destroyer-bqm97w2.html]Kiss](http://www.letssingit.com/?[url) Destroyer.”
(And I just now got the reference. I’m not a big KISS fan, obviously.)

Er… http://www.letssingit.com/machines-of-loving-grace-kiss-destroyer-bqm97w2.html

Wow, I haven’t thought about these guys for a long while. I used to be quite a fan of theirs when I was in high school.

Let’s see…“Concentration” is more, er, dancy than “Gilt” – “Gilt” is darker and heavier, and has more in common with Golgotha Tenement Blues. What you download depends on what you’re in the mood for, I guess. I would start with these:

Concentration
Lilith/Eve
Albert Speer
Trigger for Happiness

Gilt
Richest Junkie Still Alive
The Soft Collision
Suicide King
On preview: Is Kiss Destroyer really a reference to KISS? The lyrics don’t seem that way to me. (“We all suffer the symptoms of a subtle disease / Is this something a toy for you to employ? / Something left that a kiss could not destroy” / etc.)

I don’t think the lyrics are a reference to KISS, but the name of the song seems like it. Maybe it’s just a weird coincidence, though.

I’ll second gallows fodder’s choice of Lilith/Eve being a cool track. It has a real gritty, sleazy feel to it. My personal favourite off Concentration is If I should Explode. Its one of those songs that just sucks me into the sound.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I realized that part of the reason I was having a hard time deciding was that I was listening to the previews with my craptacular iBook speakers. I put on my headphones and suddenly there was . . . bass. Amazing!

I gave a careful listen to the previews of all your suggestions, and downloaded “Lilith/Eve” and “Butterfly Wings,” which sounded interesting, too.

Well, jeez, I was gonna suggest “Butterfly Wings”, but you beat me to it. The first thing I ever heard from them was actually the single “Burn Like Brilliant Trash” and that’s an okay track, as well.
