I have been trying to help my dad with an older iMac. When we attempt to print something we get a message to the effect that the computer could not find a required resource. We reinstalled the printer driver, picked the correct printer from the chooser, restarted the computer and then the printer, restarted the printer and then the computer, stuck pins in a Steve Jobs doll, nothing worked. What is the required resource?
Older iMac, so it’s running Mac OS 8.x or 9, right?
What kind of printer is it? Have you used it successfully before, with that same iMac?
Have you checked all the cables to make sure they’re in the proper slots, and that the printer driver you’re installing is the most current one? (You can get updated ones online.)
What is the error message, verbatim? Is there a error type number given?
The “required resources” are usually system files (Libraries, etc.) that have been corrupted or accidentally deleted. If you know which one, you might be able to find it somewhere; otherwise, you might have to reinstall MacOS.
Thanks to both of you.
