I have a question about season 1 of Mad Men…I haven’t seen the premier yet, but I taped it.
So, Zoey Bartlet got pregnant from her quickie on the couch. Considering this is 1959-60ish, how did she handle it? It appears she had the baby, did she put it up for adoption? Did she leave work and go to a home for unwed mothers? If she did, how did she explain her absence?
(I missed the season 1 episode where this was addressed.)
It wasn’t addressed. She went to the doctor with stomach pains. The doctor told her she was pregnant. She said “That can’t be” and then she passed out. If I remember right, the next scene was in a hospital. A nurse brought the baby to her and she refused to hold it or look at it.
The assumption is that she gave the baby up for adoption.
Season 2 takes place in 1962, two years after we left off. There is speculation in the office that Peggy went to a fat farm for a few weeks.
Also, Peggy was already pregnant when she had the quickie on the couch. She got pregnant in the very first episode when Pete came to her apartment. She had just gone on birth control pills and they hadn’t taken effect yet.
