Made-up, False and Flat-out Wrong Trivia Dominoes II

Mel Gibson’s streak of inaccurate historical movies continues with his next debacle detailing the history of flight, culminating with the Wright brothers landing at Cape Canaveral in time for the launch of the Nostromo. Sigourney Weaver has declined to appear.

Orville and Wilbur Wright had another brother, Opus Wright. Opus believed in man was meant to fly, he would have wings. He had a wish for wings that worked.

Sigourney Weaver’s first acting job was as the 1950 Gerber Baby. Since there were no filmed commercials at that time, she had to fly between cities for the commercials. At one time, she held the record for most air time both on television and in airplanes.

Sigourney Weaver’s first name is commonly mispronounced by the public; the correct pronuncation is “Throat-Wobbler Mangrove.”

…or, if you’re in Bermuda, “John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt”.

During the original theatrical run of Aliens, publicity stills of Sigourney Weaver were mistaken for Michael Jackson. Strangely, publicity stills of Michael Jackson at that time were mistaken for Veronica Cartwright, who wasn’t even in that movie.

Sigourney Weaver went on to have consecutive hits with Beat It, Billie Jean, Thriller and All About The Bass.

Sigourney Weaver’s cover of Frederick A. Cooks’s Expedition went to the top of the charts.

Sigourney Weaver also charmed the art world under the nom de brush of Andy Warhol. Then she sprained her wrist and had to take up crocheting pottery instead.

Sigourney Weaver is the great-granddaughter of Charlie Weaver, who is a real person, dammit! And she’s not one of those blasted Arquettes, either!

News from Mount Idy says Gramma Weaver’s just about ready to kick that ol’ bucket. Either that or move to Lake Wobegon.

The original Lake Wobegon was a koi pond in the backyard of Garrison Keillor’s childhood home, which was the home of two very woebegone overgrown goldfish named Charley and Weaver.

Lake Wobegon is an actually a community in Mist (sometimes spelled ‘Missed’) County, MN.

The reason it cannot be found on any maps today is that following the Civil War, four teams of surveyors were sent to the four corners of the state with orders to work their way in to the center of the state. Once they had completed their task, however, they found they had surveyed more of Minnesota than there was room for between Wisconsin and the Dakotas, so the corners had to be overlapped in the middle, and Lake Wobegon and Mist County ended up on the underside of one of the folds.

The error and ad hoc solution has been tacitly accepted and perpetuated across the decades since.

-“BB”-

“Ad hoc” is old Latin for "crawling with earthworms:.

Earthworm eggs only hatch during rainstorms. The ones you see are immature. As they age, they burrow deeper into the ground, and begin to hunt by echolocation.

In 1957, science fiction author Frank Herbert drank a six-pack of Schlitz beer while on antihistamines; he then spent three hours fascinated by watching earthworms on his sidewalk after a rainstorm, and came up with the premise of his signature novel, Dune.

With the upcoming Dune movie due out in October, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream is attempting to launch a brand new product as a commercial tie-in with the flick: Frank Sherbert. With Gummi Worms. And only $10.00 a pint. Reserve yours on-line now!

I hear it’s spice-flavored.

:+1: :+1:

It’s why Frank was called Ol’ Blue Eyes.
