MADs: batten down the hatches!

I hope everyone is doing good and riding out the storm well. But what I really want to know is my vacation starts next Friday and we are due in Myrtle Beach, SC. Will the storm be over by then or do I need to cancel our reservations now?

We’re supposed to get soaked by Henri starting this afternoon. My yard could use the rain. And it appears Bermuda is gonna get hit hard by Fabian. Ashkicker, I would think you’d be fine next week. Bear in mind, tho, I only took one meteorology class 25 years ago and I only got a B.

You should be fine, Henri is expected to have moved past here by then.

Hurricane Gloria, 1985. Wellesley College, Massachusetts. Everyone’s boyfriends came out from Cambridge bearing alcohol; we taped up the windows and partied in the hallways, but not so hard that we wouldn’t be able to listen for something that sounded like a train, a sign that the Texans and Kansans among us informed us was a tornado that would send us to the cellar.

Earliest hurricane I saw as a baby: Camille. New Englanders still talk about the nameless storm of '36.

Oh shit. Who’s Henri? Or do I really want to know?

Tropical Storm Henri, mentioned by FCM earlier.

Eee-Gads. Well I guess that explains why the rates are so cheap for hotels right now and I thought it was because it was after Labor Day.

I guess that’s what I get for being cheap and going during hurricane season instead of just paying the higher rates in the summer and fighting the college crowd. My apology to FCM I somehow missed your message. I won’t hold it against you if you are wrong about the weather forecast.

Looks like Ginger is going to see a hurricane after all, Isabelle is predicted to head right up the Chesapeake. Oy.
