Mafia: Mutiny on the SS Incorrigible

<snipped and bleached>

au contraire senor. you voted me for the same reason you voted skeezy (or so you say). subsequently you changed your tune that i was being “sneaky”. now it’s the non existent player song and dance. revisionism is a bitch, ain’t it?

and subsequently you have unvoted skeezy but leave a vote on me for the same reason you voted him. i think you are full of it. do you put strawberries and whipped cream on your waffles?

<snipped>

and none is certainly taken.

although i wish you’d come up with some scummy reason for voting for me not just because my play style on this board has “changed”. the previous playstyle, i might add, directly resulting in several lynches when i was town which was not endearing me to the crowd or helping my team.

and on preview i may have hosed the idle quotes but i think you all should be able to get the point.

Mahaloth votes Idle after his claim (which he doesn’t mention it at all):

Why do rather not want to lynch him?

For fluiddruid: since you’re voting Mahaloth, why aren’t you demoting him and promoting the claimed Mate?

Sorry that you misunderstood my reasons for voting for you (or maybe I wasn’t clear myself), but I can assure you I voted for you and for RS for two very different reasons. YOU did cast four votes, peek, so why would I say you didn’t when you did? For the fifth time, I’m voting for you for voting for only three in game players and MAKING UP a person for the fourth vote (twice).

well, story is in fact a real person (or thus i assume).

when you said you were voting for skeezy for the “same reason” (your words) i kind of had this silly thought that there were similarities between the reasons.

apparantly, my bad.

It does have a bit of a chilling effect on any further votes for Idle, but in theory there’s nothing wrong with investigating the runner-up. The question is whether Maha will be available right up to the close of play to adjust his instructions as needed. If so, fine. If it turns out he can’t make it, then he’s taken a risk on our behalf. If he knows now that he can’t be available, then I’ll be a lot more concerned by this choice.

Consider the current conditions. It’s very likely at this point that Hal will die; if I demote him, he’ll only get re-promoted to the slot again. Inner Stickler becoming Doctor is one of the few benefits to killing Hal, in my mind, and as I stated; subverting that makes no sense.

<snipped>

i don’t think it works that way.

Good point. I’m more concerned about choice of a likely lynch-candidate then. However, I’m already voting Maha.

He cannot change his order (as what peeker said).

Ah, yeah, I didn’t think of that.

Pleo, I see Tex Cat as listed as voting for himself on post 342, which he did not do. That has given him 5 votes and has caused his votes not to be counted.

Still thinking about the overnight developments, but felt that the above needed to be pointed out as soon as I noticed.

First off, let’s clear the boards here:
Unvote: fluiddruid, TexCat, peekercpa and Mahaloth

Ok, to the business at hand. First off, my apologies for not participating more – things have simply been more hectic of late than I anticipated. I’m not even going to kick and scream against being spaced, since it doesn’t look like things are going to get better for the next week or two at the earliest. That’s not to say I’m not going to defend myself – it’d certainly be better if we were to jettison a mutineer – but if the crew makes a mistake, I’m probably one of the better mistakes to be made.

So, lesse who’s pinging me:

How is this more anti-town than anyone else who isn’t posting much? I may be the captain, but it’s not like I have any exceptional powers (and FTR, my PM was as basic as can be: “You are a Loyal crew member. You win when all Mutinous crew members are dead.”) It’s not like I’m going to go off all half-cocked and put out arrest orders for anyone I want without getting a feel from the crew. Trying to build steam on my bandwagon for some made-up “more anti-town” reasoning? That’s got a nice head of scum-stank on it.
Vote Normal Phase
However

…you’re very much correct about this (and for the rest of this, we’re going to have to assume I’m wrong about you). If Fubbleskag is scum, then he knows for certain that I’m loyal. Since scum don’t ever want to all be in on a lynching, it certainly makes sense for at least one (if not more) scum to go elsewhere than the vote leader. It’s a little trickier this time around, what with the four voter per person, but there is still something to this – especially since it pretty much looks like he’s actively avoiding the vote leader. All in all, if I were told that one of these two were scum (and actually, nothing is stopping both of them from being in that boat), I’d have to say it was Normal Phase. But since four votes have to be placed…
Vote Fubbleskag

Two votes down, two to go. More after my 1:30 conference call (damnable customers).

I would prefer to brig her and lynch either Mahaloth or fluiddruid but it looks like that won’t happen.

I’m off to an appointment now so I won’t be around at Dusk.

Because as Captain, there are fewer options for dealing with you than for anyone else. You’re not going to put out an arrest order on yourself, and you can’t be demoted by the executive officer. You also have ultimate control over who gets considered for brigging. As such I think it is incumbent upon whoever is in the Captain position to speak up and make himself accountable, more so than anyone else in the game. Up to now you haven’t done that.
I’m sort of getting a kick out of your rationale on fubbleskag, though. I speculate (not sure if in so many words, but it’s definitely what I meant) that he could have been acting for your benefit; you say he’s scummy if you are town. I’m not entirely sure I buy that. He put himself on three of four leader bandwagons and any of them could have/might be lynched instead of you. If you’re town and him not, then maybe he just didn’t feel comfortable voting for the captain, or the other three cases felt more comfortable to him than yours for whatever other reason. If he’d really wanted to avoid all chance of getting blame for someone’s lynch, he wouldn’t have voted for any of the leaders.

Sorry for missing the unvotes when I bleached.

Indeed it looks like the choice will not be for either of my own top two candidates. I’d still rather lynch Hal than Drain Bead, though.

For my last real vote, assuming nothing else changes,

unvote: Normal Phase
vote: Red Skeezix

Indulging myself. That “lecturing” tone in the one early post continues to itch in my hindbrain.

unvote Idle Thoughts as there’ no point in voting for someone about to be investigated.
**
vote Mahaloth** for being next on my list.

I’m beginning to see the essence of the case on fluiddruid, but I think it amounts to a disagreement over strategic considerations due to forced multi-vote. The shotgun approach where you identify a group where you think there is scum and fire at all of them because that’s the place you most heavily place scum and you have to use 4 votes has its problems, but I see good intent in them (omg I’m thinking about motives). If Idle comes up scum then obviously this will need to be revisited, but I don’t place any blame on the reasoning and find all the defense to be legitimate.

I see a case against fubbleskag as well, who I wish would defend himself a bit, but I didn’t see Mahaloth attempt to defend his votes that seem slightly contradictory - voting for people because they voted for people who they’re not real sure are scum. I don’t see how voting like that makes you likely scum. Likelier than otherwise, maybe, in which case I guess the votes have merit in that you need to vote for four. It still feels hypocritical to use that as the only reason. fubbleskag made some weird justifications, and is now next on my list, but I see much more strangeness in Mahaloth.

Still disappointed in Drain Bead not showing, and it’s sad to lynch someone for complete failure to participate, but not saying or voting anything at all makes it harder for us to win even if she is town. This is an extremely weak vote on that basis, and I’m leaning more towards fubbleskag’s very weak participation as showing more scummy possibility.

unvote Drain Bead
vote fubbleskag

I’m not sure what to think of Hal defending himself, but it initially rings very hollow; it seems his defense is merely to unvote and look for real votes, when I’m more concerned about him not immediately unvoting his first opportunity if he thought his time might be short. I’d really like to hear more, but I’m out of time to wait for it.

Since Hal’s on his way out, I am going to

demote Natlaw

One spot further away from officerhood and I have no issues with Normal Phase.
