Mafia: Not-so-simple-Simpletown

Welcome Simpletons!

Sign up here to join. Signups end Friday 13 March 2009 at Noon.

There is a specific number of players required for this game to operate, but I’m not telling you how many. I will randomly choose extras to be removed at the start if necessary. (But if I remove you, you WIN! Yay!)

Old and new are welcome, but this will not be a “simple” game.

As long as you don’t yell, I’m in. :stuck_out_tongue:

Free win if you get removed? My competitive side says yes, please give me that, but my mafia itch side says nooooo must play.

Question: Will we know the rules by the time the game actually starts? If so, I’m in, but I don’t think I’d want to try to figure out the rules as we go along (that’s too much like work).

I’m in.

Count me in!

I, too, prefer open rules sets, but I think I’m the only one runs them anymore.

I can’t play since I know too much, but I will be watching.

Here’s the deal: I’m really new to Mafia. I just got lynched in one, and I’m still playing another. Essentially, I’m an idiot (so far).

Should I play this one? Be honest.

Just don’t claim scum when you’re not.

(Don’t take this the wrong way ok? But that was one of the worst moves ever. There are very few situations where Town should lie, and that wasn’t one of them.)

I think I’ve learned THAT lesson.
I have a few days. I think I’ll sleep on it.

You can’t get better without playing.

That’s actually a very valid point.

Okay, I’m in, if you’ll have me.

/in.

Simpletown is a Closed setup game. The rules will be posted this weekend, but will not include a comprehensive list of roles.

In some ways this is harder than the Open setup that Pleonast establishes since you don’t know what roles and powers exist, but in this closed setup game, the roles themselves are not nearly as complex as Pleonast’s.

I’d like to give it another shot.

Oh boy. Do you need a sub bench for this one? I can’t really sign up for realsies, but I’d be happy to be first off the bench if needed.

Well, I’m alternately enjoying and disliking I’m in now - the newbie “Split” game.

I think most of my dislike comes from just not knowing what to do/look at, so I guess I just need to get more experience.

So…count me in.

If you have room, whoopee. If not, then Meh. If you need a sub all right then.

I need something a little more cerebral.

Plus I have to get the details on story’s last meal.

NETA

The last was meant as a deliberate jab to pede.

Pokeball and smasher, WTF.

Warren Zevon and Timbuk3, now you are talking. Even closer to Benny Goodman.

The game will operate on a weekly schedule. Days will start at some semi-arbitrary point during the weekend; ideally Saturday Afternoon (4PM ET), but no later than Sunday Morning. Days will end at precisely on Thursdays at 4:00 PM ET by the SDMB clock. Board outages will not change the end of Day; plan carefully. All votes must have a time stamp of Thursday, 3:59 PM ET or earlier. Posts and votes with time stamps Thursday, 4:00PM ET or later will be ignored.

Night instructions are due via SDMB PM by Saturday 4:00PM ET by SDMB clock.
Failure to meet the deadline will result in no action.

Vote LikeThis
Votes must be in bold blue, on a single line, by itself. Please don’t play hide the vote from the moderator. Everyone will be happier with accurate vote counts. (For strict interpretation, any vote in blue will be considered an intended vote. Bold, single line, by itself is a moderator request, not a requirement)

Unvote LikeThis
Unvotes are to be made in bold red, on a single line, by itself.

Messages to the moderator should be sent by PM in bold green, on a single line.
The moderator encourages questions to the moderator to be sent via PM.

Lynches will be by plurality. The leading vote-getter at 4:00PM ET on Thursday will die.
Ties are bad. Don’t do them.
Ties will be resolved by random lynch.** The lynched player will belong to the set of voters who created the tie.**
Ties are bad. Don’t do them.

A No Lynch will occur if an uncontested plurality of votes accumulates for No Lynch. A tie with No Lynch will result in someone getting lynched as if the No Lynch votes didn’t exist at all.

Substitutions/Removal:
I will allow substitutions up through the Dawn of Day Three. Removal from the game for infractions and/or lack of presence is at the Moderator’s discrestion. Removals will occur at Dusk.

Prodding:
The moderator will not prod anyone. Failure to participate may result in substitution/removal.

Win Condition:
Individual win conditions will not change during the course of the game. Your team wins when all threats to your team are neutralized.

Closed Setup:
An inventory of roles will not be published.
The standard Town role PM will be public information.

Vanilla Town PM:
Welcome to Simpletown. You are a Simpleton.
You win with the Town.
Town wins when all anti-Town elements are dead.
