Ooh, I was afraid of this. I was going to say something earlier, but I thought, what are the chances he’ll choose Thursdays as the end of Day? Due to my schedule this semester, my participation will be almost nonexistent on Thursdays. Given the importance of end-of-day discussion, I think this means that I had better bow out of this.

It’s up to you; just know that you will neither be the first nor the last player to be unavailable for the end of Day activities. I don’t expect everyone to be available at the End of Day. Ideally, you all would come to an agreement long before the End of Day. Good luck with that though

Anyhoo, I’m considering getting my feet wet on this one. I’m a total noob to this game, but I’ve been reading through the old game threads, and it seems just the sort of thing to keep a tabletop-roleplaying GM’s skullduggery skills intact while all his players are off to parts unknown until summer. Veterans o’ Mafiosity: should I jump in here, or wait for something Open-setup/closer to vanilla? These things come around often enough that I don’t mind waiting.

It’s up to you. This game will not be as simple as the original Simpletown, but will not be exceedingly complex either.

I would join, but a 4 PM EST Dusk means I can’t do anything at the end of the Day. If Dusk came around 8 or 9 PM, I would be able to participate.

I’m still slightly miffed that I was the first one Eaten in The Split. I’m waiting for the game to end to find out why I was the first pick.

I don’t expect everyone to be available at the End of the Day. Such an expectation is not reasonable for these online games.

Well not only that, but lets say Alice has two votes and Bob has two, but I really think Bob is scum and so do you.

I vote Bob, but now you don’t want to because 1) you don’t want to put your own neck out in case the tie remains 2) You will be perceived as scummy for tying the vote and invalidating both Alice and Bob lynches until someone else votes.

The setup is very anti-voting. Anything anti-voting is undercutting the only real tool the town has. This is already looking to be extremely non simple =p

The setup is meant to be anti-Tie. In previous games, Ties had to be resolved in some manner or another, and I prefer not randomly choosing between the lynch candidates as that has a high impact on the outcome of the game. The Tie-rule is meant to discourage Ties. Ties are bad. Don’t do ties.

A question on timing, sach. How long do you expect the game to last? I ask because I’m three weeks from starting a new job which means that: a) I have no qualms about putting hours into a game while I work out my notice and b) conversely I’ll be being extremely keen and productive in the new one. So how far advanced do you expect the game to be by the end of March?

I expect the game will take longer than 3 weeks to complete. The game length will depend on the number of players who signup; currently I’m shooting for an expected value of 7 Days (7 weeks) to resolve a winner.

Decisions, decisions. I’m genuinely tempted, but as I find it infuriating when people sign up and then admit that they’re not really able to play, I’m going to leave Mafia until I a) get used to having a baby in the house and b) suss out the tolerances at my new job.

Ah, let me try another color:
sachertorte, how does the set of players who created the tie differ from the set of players that are alive? Only thing I can think of is some sort of vote block power.

But perhaps we should save something to discuss Day One, but after a quick look at Simpletown: any clue why a death NAF is still the mayor of Simpletown? Or maybe that’s why it’s not so simple anymore…
