Mafia: Not-so-simple-Simpletown

For some reason I’m having trouble with quoting Hero but I agree. There is something off with Pleo not being able to count mislynches. Its as good as we’re going to find on Day 1 so until something else crops up;

Vote Pleo
I don’t remember exactly how many games I’ve played in but they’ve all been on the dope I think its around 5. I tried to search my name and mafia and broke search twice.

Confirming my role.

This is my Mafia debut.

(Or is it? Mwa ha ha ha ha)…

(No seriously, this is my Mafia debut).

The game will operate on a weekly schedule. Days will start at some semi-arbitrary point during the weekend; ideally Saturday Afternoon (4PM ET), but no later than Sunday Morning. Days will end at precisely on Thursdays at 4:00 PM ET by the SDMB clock. Board outages will not change the end of Day; plan carefully. All votes must have a time stamp of Thursday, 3:59 PM ET or earlier. Posts and votes with time stamps Thursday, 4:00PM ET or later will be ignored.

Night instructions are due via SDMB PM by Saturday 4:00PM ET by SDMB clock.
Failure to meet the deadline will result in no action.

Votes must be in bold blue, on a single line, by itself. Please don’t play hide the vote from the moderator. Everyone will be happier with accurate vote counts. (For strict interpretation, any vote in blue will be considered an intended vote. Bold, single line, by itself is a moderator request, not a requirement)

Unvote LikeThis
Unvotes are to be made in bold red, on a single line, by itself.

Messages to the moderator should be sent by PM in bold green, on a single line.

Lynches will be by plurality. The leading vote-getter at 4:00PM ET on Thursday will die.
Ties are bad. Don’t do them.
Ties will be resolved by random lynch. The lynched player will belong to the set of voters who created the tie.
Ties are bad. Don’t do them.

A No Lynch will occur if an uncontested plurality of votes accumulates for No Lynch. A tie with No Lynch will result in someone getting lynched as if the No Lynch votes didn’t exist at all.

Substitutions/Removal:
I will allow substitutions up through the Dawn of Day Three. Removal from the game for infractions and/or lack of presence is at the Moderator’s discrestion. Removals will occur at Dusk.

Prodding:
The moderator will not prod anyone. Failure to participate may result in substitution/removal.

Win Condition:
Individual win conditions will not change during the course of the game. Your team wins when all threats to your team are neutralized.

Closed Setup:
An inventory of roles will not be published.
The standard Town role PM will be public information.

Stuff you should already know:

  • Game related communication outside the game thread is forbidden, except for off-board communications established by the moderator.
  • Be nice.
  • Only living players may post game relevant discussion to the game thread.
  • No editing.

Vanilla Town PM:
Welcome to Simpletown. You are a Simpleton.
You win with the Town.
Town wins when all anti-Town elements are dead.

The discrepancy is in the off-board communications. I copied the rules from Simpletown which restricted scum talk to Night only. The rules do not make that stipulation in not-so-simple Simpletown, for various not-so-simple reasons.

Yeah, some database errors here as well, but I think I got my signature updated. It now has links to the new posts and my game bookmarks - I’ll keep it updated with links to Dusk/Dawn posts of the game. Also the post counts link, though not as useful I think, as we’re only have one thread for the game I think.

No MHaye in this game for the ‘Don’t hold grudges post’, so maybe someone else will do that.
I want to ask everyone to keep real life and the game separated (as in separate post or marked with out-of-game). Mafia is a game of suspicion, but I don’t want to second guess statements like ‘I could post because I am sick/without connection/on vacation’.
But something like ‘no reason for me to post because everyone already said what I wanted to say’ is a valid reason to vote (though I hope to find better ones of course).

Hello? Looks like my last post was eaten by hamsters.

Using a “20” rather than a “15” is an arithmetic mistake. I suppose you could call that a “fudged” number, but since it doesn’t depend on any of my guesses of power role numbers, I’m not sure why it would imply I’m Scum.

I find it rather interesting that Oredigger was so quick to vote me once someone else did. This is Day One, can’t you be more creative than a me-too vote?

Anyway, I’m a poor lynch candidate. I’ve by killed by Scum Night One the last couple games I’ve played in, so lynching me now is simply speeding things up a little.

Oredigger is getting my vote for two reasons:

A) a very quick* “me-too” vote for Pleonast

B) was the first to confirm PM – which, as Pleonast pointed out, scum is very eager to get started in the game.

Therefore,

Vote Oredigger77

*…along with some garbage about not being able to quote previous post, blah blah blah, we all know the boards are wonky butt his also could be used as a subterfuge for someone to hide behind.

Confirming rec’d my PM

Confirming that I have no idea what I’m doing

This is my second ever game of Mafia, and the first one is the ongoing Werewolf which was designed specifically for newbies.

Got my PM. Played more games than I wish to think about. My wife yells at me every time I mention a new game of Mafia.

I see we’re not wasting any time now are we? Interesting. Too early to form a strong opinion yet, we’ll see how things develop.

I wonder what twists Sach added to this one. The last simpletown was pretty bog standard vanilla.

I love the whole day one nearly made up votes. But seriously I was online looking for the results of EH’s lynch in The Split when I got my PM and figured since I was in the forum I’d drop in.

As to the whole quote problem I’m not sure what happened but I hit the quote button and I was sent to the reply screen and it was blank so I went back and tried again with the same result. I figured there was some board problem so I went with it. If anyone has an explanation I’d love to hear it.

Meh, if Pleo’s town he’ll be dead by morning (I think it’s a rule). If he’s still alive toMorrow then he’s “obviously scum” and we lynch him (that’s a joke by the way just in case anyone’s confused).

As for the bad math argument I didn’t even notice due to the fact my eyes glaze over whenever numbers are involved. I’m not belittling numbers. I realise they’re helpful to loads of players but they just give my brain pins and needles. The way I see it we should be looking hard for scum every Day and not just when we’re at LyLo so the numbers, while interesting shouldn’t make us suddenly start playing harder - we should be playing hard regardless.

[[oog I really said hard way too much in that last paragraph. Must get a life oog]]

Confirming my PM

[quote=“Almost_Human, post:170, topic:488592”]

The way I see it we should be looking hard for scum every Day[/QUOT]Oh yeah? I thought we should be picking flowers and baking pies.

How hard are you looking for scum?

This is BS.

IME, people confirm when they open their PM’s. They don’t know their roles until they open their PM’s, therefore confirm order means nothing.

Vote SoT&B

For using specious logic.

The modified rules hint at a secret communication twist. It could be something that helps one (or more) of the following groups:
• scum e.g. scum can talk during the Day
• town e.g. masons can communicate
• third parties (if we have any) e.g. there could be an additional fraction, or a competition between PFKs (like in Evil Dead mafia)
Or it could be a red herring, though that’s unlikely because in that case sachertorte probably wouldn’t have re-posted the rules.

This type of twist can make things a lot more complicated (and interesting), because if some subset of players gets to secretly communicate, then they might be able to pull off more elaborate strategies. So I’ll be on the lookout for (IOW, even more paranoid about) people working together, and perfect information slips.

Hero, be nice to Almost Human; I think AH and I are the only two women in this whole town  Personally, I agree with her about mislynches. Let’s not get too hung up on them. The exact number is too hard to predict anyway. It seems like larger games usually have two night kills, so we might have a Serial Killer or a Vigilante. In that case, we’ll probably have even fewer mislynches. And if we have a good/lucky doctor, we might get an extra mislynch.

Got my PM.

Whoa… I opened the other Mafia game running here, and just about wet myself at the amount of posts that seemingly came out of nowhere in the hour since I had checked in here last.

Sorry, my tone was a bit blunt.

I was trying to say Almost Human: do what you suggest, look for scum. I am suspicious when someone gives advice they aren’t following themselves.

I wanted to say something about unprovoked claims on Day 1, Day 2, and sometimes Day 3.

Don’t do them.

I don’t care who you are or why you did it.

If you’re in danger of being lynched, OK…but unprovoked claims, especially Vanilla will make me want to lynch you.

And I’m probably not alone in that feeling

What if someone claims scum?

You mean they don’t do that in every game?

(rexnervous: only experience with Mafia being the Werewolf Split game)
