Mafia: Simpletown

NAF1138, of course one post is never a solid case against anyone. I never said it was. It’s an attitude, a dismissiveness, an inherent lack of cooperation that most sticks in my craw. When I first voted for MadTheSwine I made great pains to point out that I don’t have a scum read on him. Two hours later his unheard of extensive post told me he sits and listens but never types. I can forgive lack of posting if work and life get in the way, but not because you watch the boards but choose not to post. His later posts never once took that suspicion off, which at first was just for lurking but later much more. Frankly, a person who appears first and questions my assessment of a player then admits he 's new makes me wonder about you.

Really? If you wondered that wouldn’t you have spent the time to look it up?

Here’s the point ShadowFacts, anyone can say what they like, I know I’m town. It’s quiet as hell around here and by at least antagonizing people I suspect I can get a better read on them. Maybe I’ll be lynched, maybe I’ll be night killed, either way every townie will be able to look back on my posts and know my motivation and review the oppositions responses.

It takes courage to say who you think is NOT scum because you inevitably tie yourself to that person. I really don’t think peekercpa is scum, and I’ve said why, I know full well if he turns out to be scum I’m in serious shit, but I said it anyway because I believe it and wanted to focus towns attention to someone more likely. NAF1138, immediately defended MadTheSwine before really getting to know him…yeah.

Oh, and fluiddruid–that post by post analysis is fascinating. I’m going to try that as soon as I need to.

I don’t find Mad suspicious. His original suggestions were definintley (to me) anti-town, but Mad’s defense of his opinions seem less like a scum defending a slip than a stubborn person who refuses to admit he’s wrong. Espicially since he’s ignored the arguments by this point and is discussing something else (W F Tomba & Shadow Facts (more to it, I know, but the point is that it’s not the bandwagon on him)).

I just can’t see a scum not defend himself if a bandwagon’s formed. Also, there is a conspicuous lack of allies for Mad, meaning that his fellow scum have abandoned him (or jumped on the bandwagon), or Mad is town, and the scum are sitting (on the bandwagon?) and laughing.

Personally, I find the second more likely.

Also, Sitnam is hitting my radar. At first, there was that weird “You know what is not scum? peekercpa!” Now he’s gone ultra-gung-ho on Mad, even going so far as code posts. With a fairly bog-standard game, that sort of behaivor is anti-town. Also, when asked to back up his comment he said:

the GD equivelant of ‘Bite me’. Is he being snippy about this for non-mafia reasons, or is there something else to this? I’d think he was the dective, but said dectective has had only one investigation, and Sitnam’s displayed PKS (perfect knowledge syndrome) twice so:
Vote Sitnam

No, really. No sarcasm intended. It’s been much more busy than usual. Once-in-a-lifetime opportunities are ones I try to take, and I’m not going to be snippy when it’s time well spent.

And this post was going to be snippy, but it would have ruined the meaning

You may not believe me, but it really was a coincidence. My dad left, and I had some time before bed, so I wanted to get a post in since I was so busy lately. And what do I see (in blue)? Ice Cream Man has voted for me since I’m under the radar! So I rush immeadeatly to post a defense before I read the rest of the thread. And that’s really how it happened.

Look, I know this won’t convince you. And seeing that I survived the first day and probably will the second (a feat for any newbie), I ask, in all honesty, what will?

Fair enough. I read the “Well, fluidruid…” opening as snippy. But it’s hard to read tone on the net, so I’ll take your word for it.

Also, fluiddruid, (just realized)–Why would I jump all over you, but not Ice Cream Man? Or NAF1138? It doesn’t make sense if I was intentionally lurking–but it does support the coincidence that did happen.

It’s akward to talk directly to one person on a thread. So I’ve decided to quote them, or (if I’m feeling lazy) address them in the opening sentence when I do so.
And NAF1138, I’m a guy.

Why was that weird? Peekercpa had just been getting pressure from Nanook and Ice Cream Man for being too quiet. It’s not like it came out of nowhere. And Sitnam gave a detailed explanation for why he did not think peeker is scum. Your paraphrase above makes it sound impulsive and unsubstantiated. What was your problem with it?

I wish I was afflicted, it’d make my Wednesday night bar trivia games easier. Are the only two possibilities for me either detective or scum? Are you sure?

Sure, that’s fine. I’ve been trying to pressure and question people as much as, if not more than, you have, so obviously I have no problem with that. It’s the cryptic, dismissive style you were doing it in that I thought was unproductive and unlikely to win other people over (as seen with NAF). Sure, maybe he’s scum defending a brethren, but maybe he just reacted poorly to a clipped, abrasive-sounding post like:

Muddies the waters, IMO.

But at least it’s talk, IMO.

Okie dokie, the game is afoot.

This could get real fun if/when NAF ramps it up.

Me can hardly wait.

fluiddruid, I find your vote on pedescribe curious, and here’s why:

So, it looks like he went from “not worth a vote” to a vote in like 3 hours, and the impetus for the vote is that he answered your direct question. I presume since you changed your vote that you now think pedescribe is more scummy than MadTheSwine. Is that correct?

Ok, I’ve got a vote down. But …

I still believe that there is at least one, and based on current discussion, probably two or more experienced folks that are scum.

Ok, who do I consider experienced: Blaster Master, FluidDrruid, Kolodanar (Yikes, it’s NAF), Mad (because that is how he wants to be addressed) and ShadowFacts (this list was done alphabatically).

I am confident that at least one, probably two and maybe three of the scum lie here.

I’m pretty sure all of the scum lie!

Okay, maybe not yet. But they will.

Tou - flippin’ - che.

The time isn’t relevant, it’s his posts that are relevant. I found his response of interest and I tend to take it as a sign that he was intentionally holding back posting today (a change in strategy).

As I said, I thought he sounded scummy at first but came to believe it was just newbie posting (and further, he received his prior vote for having “low post numbers for the whole game”. But, he didn’t have low post numbers for the whole game, just Day 2.

As I said then, it could be that it was because he received some coaching from other scum players to hold it back a little, but I didn’t think it was worth a vote (due to the lack of further info at that time and nothing really conclusive from his posts).

However, when specifically called out (not generally spoken about as in previous posts) he read my post, and responded with a decently-sized post, all within the space of 7 minutes. He now claims that’s a coincidence, and I suppose it could be. But, I find that an awfully big coincidence and I felt it was worth switching my vote to call attention to it.

Basically, we have two options here - for several real life days he had limited availability, and then, all of a sudden, after my post – immediately, mind you, within 7 minutes – he responds not to all the other posts about him, but to mine, which (again) is the first one that directly asks him to respond. Or, is it that he is intentionally holding back today, and when he was specifically called out to respond, he felt that he needed to.

As we’re on Day Two, of course, the level of convincing that needs to be done to get a vote is somewhat low. Further, as I said, while I believe MadTheSwine has a scummy “vibe” and is acting somewhat anti-Town by being defensive and difficult, I think he’s acting rather ham-handedly for scum, particularly scum who’s played before. I just didn’t have a better candidate at the time. Now, I feel that I do. I think that it’s more likely that pedescribe is a new player who ended up scum than I think that MadTheSwine is playing scum poorly. That could change but that’s my assessment for now.

Possibly, but I’m not convinced that it couldn’t be random. I randomly assigned the Godfather in my own game (along with all other roles) because it becomes a little unfair to give power roles and scum roles only to experienced players - because of analysis like this. Further, experienced players often already have a problem because scum loves to kill off players that are helping Town the most when they can do so discretely. Not to say that I’m more likely at this point to have a correct vote necessarily, but, experienced players tend to be a bit more familiar with scum strategy and so on and as such a town full of first time players is a big scum advantage.

You know what’s worse than 2 root canals? Knowing that there’s weeks and weeks of more work upcoming. It is kinda funny that the dental work and the game coincided like this though.

I think at this point, based on the kill of Queen of Town, that I’m going to have to vote for a veteran player. I just don’t believe that was a random kill at all. So working from that, I believe that it would take a veteran player to pick up on the tell and be able to correctly interpret it. As far as I can tell, the list of veterans in the game right now is Blam, NAF(Koldanar), fluiddruid, Mad and zuma.

NAF hasn’t been in the game long enough to give off any vibes one way or another. I didn’t pick anything specific up from Kold so he’s off the list for Today.

Zuma is tough. He has such a…unique playing style it’s really hard to get a read on him. I think more time is needed here.

Blam has been very helpful to town. But at the same time he’s displayed a definate scum tell on a few occassions, skimming. I’m not quite ready to go down that road yet however, so I’ll hold that one for later.

As for fluiddruid, for me she falls into a similar situation to Santo Rugger. Every game I’ve read she was in she struck me as scum. But she wasn’t scum in all of them. So I don’t trust myself on that count.

And finally MadtheSwine. He’s given off a bit of a scummy vibe. I looked over the thread, and of all the options he’s definately the scummiest. I would also like to draw attention to what Shadowfacts mentioned, from yesterday, starting at post 343. Especially interesting to me is how convinced Mad acted with regards to him finding 2 scum on day 1(zuma and Shadow). It is enough for me.

Vote MadtheSwine

1 - zuma (pedescribe)
