Yeah. But at this point, with the Nanook thing, I just wanted to live for one more Day- that woulda been the only thing (though I PM you wondering If I could have surrendered peacefully during the last Night- as the game was pretty much unwinnable for 1 scum).
Especially since I needed to get it down to 1v1, and then have a freaking COIN FLIP to basically see if I won.
So yeah, my only goal for this day was to Kill Buffytabby, and mock the Townies during the night as I died in the morning if Nanook was dead.
You have no idea how freaking hard it was to not say anything the last couple of days. I kept wanting to butt in and say things, comment on things, and just basically play the game. But the plan was a good one, even if it was unnecessary for us to win so I bit my tongue.
I might have voted for Bufftabby if I hadn’t done what I did, but I’m not sure. The problem is with zuma disappearing like he did, there was a lot more thereto find on buff than him, so it made it easier to find things on her than him. But I may have gone the other way in the end. I can’t say for sure since I didn’t do any looking back once I resolved to get killed.
I have to admit I still had niggling suspicions that Blam was going to turn out to be the actual godfather right up until near the end. You were acting SO scummy early on. I understand what you were going for now, but I think that was a risky move to make in a game with as many newer players as this one had. Glad it worked out however.
Thanks for the game sachertorte. As a newb (and CPA) it is damn impossible for me to see the nuances that the more experienced players discern.
That’s the frame of mind I had when I posted about Nanook of the North Shore. Finally I can contribute something that helps contributr to a townie win. Subsequently I went to one of my daughter’s soccer game and they basically got screwed by a rules interpretation and lost. I thought how much that was basically what I had done. I wished I could go back in time and not make that post publically but just keep it in the back of my mind. Sorry, better luck/play next time.
This is why in the games that I modded, I decided that a modkill would occur in lieu of a lynch, rather than in addition to one. That is, the first modkill (if multiple modkills had to take place) would have ended the Day. (And then any further modkill(s) would have been resolved at Dawn.)
I don’t blame you for still being a bit suspicious of me, I was trying out some pretty unusual stuff in this game. I try to bring something new and different to every game. I want to try new techniques and take a slightly different approach so it’s not just the same thing over and over, and it helps keep me from being pinned to much based upon how I played before. But, at least it looked like it worked, and it was a lot of fun trying to play that edge, which meant sometimes I just had to do some erratic stuff.
And to RoOsh, as I said, you did fairly well picking up where you could, but in the end, for me, it was zuma that pushed you over the edge. I had a gut feeling about you, but I couldn’t substantiate it, so I didn’t really point it out much (like the tone of your defenses, which I mentioned earlier), and a lot of it had to do with the fact that we were missing so much information and then you subbed. As someone else said, the problem was there was just so much more information on bufftabby, so it was easier to find scummy things about her when we were looking.
Yeah, I’ve been wanting to Bus a townie when I’m town in a game for a while now, But I keep chickening out. I like playing VERY Pro-Townie, and even though I can justify reasons for bussing a townie, it still feels very “anti-town” to me.
But I’m glad SOMEONE did it.
I agree that your ruleset would have averted the problem that arose in this game; however, I’ve avoided denying Town the opportunity to lynch every Day. My thinking was that it is unfair to deny the Town a lynch if some player fails to show up (not fun). I think there are other situations where a Townie disappearing and denying lynch would close the game. Perhaps that should be a ‘tough luck’ situation, but I’m not sure.
So far, I think Rysto’s suggestion that mod-kill = individual loss is best. People who disappear for legitimate reasons will disappear (take the loss) and not care. But someone playing the game, wouldn’t suicide on purpose because it means a loss for him. Furthermore, no one could reasonably expect someone to suicide on purpose.
Actually, I’m impressed that you found the loophole. Loopholes in rules should be found and exploited. Even if you hadn’t found it, or reported it, I fully intended to bring up the loophole for post-game discussion. That way we know how to better design games in the future.
I also think we are very similar in mind. I have a terrible time finding scum (Watching recruitment, I think I’m getting better; but we’ll see…), but I have a good grasp on rules interpretation, situational analysis, and strategy. Maybe I should have been a CPA?
I think you will gain better insight after you play a scum role yourself. I think that was an eye-opening experience for me. After playing scum, you see some statements that look scummy (logically scummy) are really statements that scum would never make!
Playing scum is great. Instead of being paranoid about who’s scum, you’re paranoid about who is going to find out you’re scum. Instead of seeing every little mistake everyone else makes as a scum tell, you see every little mistake you or your team makes and see it as a scum tell. Instead of making logic arguments that end up being wrong, you make wrong arguments that end up being logical. But definitely, it really helps a lot in being able to figure out the full aspects of playing the game game.
Okay, well, now that this game is over, who was up for modding a new one? If no one else is up to it, I have a couple themed ideas, one being a bit more traditional (not too much more than this, but with a few twists), and one being fairly complex, and I’d be happy to run either.
