Mafia The Game III: Kinder and Gentler

JesusFuckingCriminyChristInABottleWithChickens

Thank Og it is over. I can taste the first of the strawberries with cream again, with the birds nesting in the hazel thicket.

I was so convinced that Diggit was scum, so many times. :smack:

Great game everyone!

Go Town!

I did virtually nothing to help the cause, but I can still celebrate with the best of them!

Well done, town.

Diggit, you played the Mason role masterfully.

Wow!

Massive massive congratulations to all town and thanks for making this so fun to follow. And man, was I wrong about some things… I went from being sure IdleThoughts was scum to being sure DigitCamera was scum. Y’all should be glad I wasn’t a voting townie.

I told you I was town! Er, what? Did I miss a PM or something?

First, I’d like to apologize for dumping on the game with the stress I am having in real life. I think it was in bad form, and only put a damper on the end-game. Cookies (I hope you don’t mind if I call you that, it’s just that your username is so long) was right to call me out on that. It was more of a preemptive apology to both the mafia and the town on why I didn’t bring my A-game. I should have just said I have been busy, or just not said anything, and let it play out. So, sorry about that everyone.

That said, I really did have fun playing. A little more before I was recruited, but it was fun all around.

I hope I had at least a few spectators fooled. Probably not, but I at least had myself fooled.

Gadarene, I think you did a good job moderating the game. Mistakes happen, and I think you recovered from the Idle/watchman mix-up as well as you could. I was impressed with how on the ball you were with answering questions and the days ending and starting, and with votecounts etc. I think it’s telling that of the three games hosted on the SDMB so far I think all three moderators have said they won’t moderate again due to how hard it is. I wouldn’t mind at all if you decide to do another and wouldn’t hesitate to play in another game you moderate. You set up a very interesting game that was obviously well balanced since it came down to just the three of us. Thank you very much for setting up the game and keeping it going.

I think both the town and mafia as a whole played a really good game. I still can’t believe Rachm Qoch was mafia – he was so below my scum radar. Great job Diggit for catching me. I made my mistakes once I was recruited and you picked up on them. I don’t think I had any chance of changing your mind.

Cookies, I want to thank you. I felt you went out of your way to play this game in the spirit it was intended, and I really appreciated the way you handled things at the end. That said, I had a townie read on you from the very beginning, and in the end that same ability of yours to project towniness was my downfall. Very good job. God help us if you are ever mafia.

As Blaster Master mentioned, there were some interesting things revealed in the mafia board. They killed me night 5 (I think it was) because I was onto a few of them. That was actually a little gratifying to read. And as Blaster Master said, he thought I was a mason, which I really didn’t get because I thought I was being very transparent that I wasn’t a mason.

Now I get to go read the forbidden thread and see if anyone at all thought Cookies was the recruit. I’m guessing no.

Sorry mafia that I didn’t pull it off.

Thanks everyone for the great game.

I don’t know who’s on the list to write a game after Blaster Master, but I heard of a Time Travel variation which sounded really neat if anybody is looking for ideas. I couldn’t find a complete rule set, but the basic idea was that certain players had fuel that would let them travel back in time a certain number of days, usually to use whatever their special ability was to either kill someone, or block a kill. Other players had shields to stop time travel on a certain day, and other gadgets… the really interesting part was the fact that, since kills could be undone after the fact, nobody was informed of the lynched or murdered players’ role until the game ended; some variations told you Townie/Non-Townie without specifying roles, and one simply didn’t give a role. As such, detectives were a lot more plentiful and hellishly important.

Woohoooo!!! Way to go, town!!

And speaking of, my apologies to any town that I had a hand in lynching, especially those who I thought probably were town. I should’ve known that there was little chance at a Mason win, but I kept too focused on that. Had I played for a town win, a couple of lives probably could’ve been saved.
Still…it would’ve been such a nice Masonic utopia…<whistful sigh>…

coughs

I still want the SCL Memorial Animal Shelter.

Lynching innocent townies…

I knew Diggit wasn’t scum; he worked too hard at defending me from Idle Thoughts .

I was convinced Cookies was scum. I thought for sure that if nesta were the recruit there would have been a false mason role-claim. It would have been easy to convince Cookies to vote for Diggit with all of tirial’s accusations and general distrust about Diggit. Since nesta didn’t roleclaim, I figured Cookies was scum. Plus Cookies voted for Diggit right away after his mason claim.

I’m terrible at this game!

Thanks. Don’t be too hard on yourself; after all you fell during the first Days, when I at least was convinced I knew it all. Your only mistake during that time was that one post where you tried to guess both Lightnin’s role and why he was defended by several other players. Which led me to my first (or maybe second) mistake of many: I should have pressed for **Lightnin’**s lynch at that time. His guilt would have shown if your play was motivated or simply… a mistake.

Anyhow, congratulations to all townies! Thanks to Gadarene for your moderating (hey, you were a newbie moderator. I’m sure your next moderation will be far better!)

And, of course, thank you to my fellow masons! You ROCK! (And saved my hide for at least three Days in a row)

Tell you what…I’m working on earning a share of 700,000 pounds in pirate gold. When I get my cut, I’ll see to it the shelter gets built.

Actually, Cookies preempted that option by noting I was a mason. And baffled me since she voted for me in spite of that insight.

Luckily, I was able to convince her of my non-recruitness.

Diggit, I was so hoping you weren’t the recruit! After you had gone out on a limb to defend me I would have hated to cheer for your death!

Gadarene, thanks so much for hosting/moderating/whatever!

Well… let’s be honest here: one of the reasons I was pushing so hard against your death was actually rather selfish. See: the double move fluiddruid and Lemur866 had pulled off left me with certainty that you were a citizen. As such (and disagreeing with the comments **Hal **voiced in the forbidden thread, since I thought it was way too early to start playing for a Masonic win), leaving you in the game gave me better odds to pick scum.

Still, I played it too hard, and almost got myself killed.

Thanks, though they don’t tend to agree in the Forbidden Thread. And I really walked a thin line for a couple of Days.

The funny thing, though, is during the last few days the Masons were rather easy to spot, once one of them was lynched. And yet the Mafia had to lynch at least one of us if they wanted to have a chance of winning.

Bolding mine.

Now now, my good man. I hold that record. Yet our side still game out in the end (however, just to be clear, I don’t think YOU hindered it any in the least. You were a very good player).

Snipped.

Yeah, that’s about the size of it. I knew that I was the first Night and on the third no-kill Night I had protected someone when I should have been dead (so technically they should have been dead too), but I didn’t know who it was. I also wasn’t sure what happened that second one. Thank you for clearing it up and explaining it.

And much thanks to Gad for a great game. Don’t hang up your MC shoes.

Agreed. He only made one wild guess, and was tricked into that play by fluiddruid.

It’s funny, once I knew she was scum, I re-read that “vote swing” and thought to myself “If only he’d pointed his finger at her, we’d have had a scum far earlier”.

It’s also funny how many “parting death wishes” I got. And yet I was one of the last two players standing.

(btw, Gadarene, any chance we’ll get to look at the mafia thread?)

Bingo – that was one of the most frustrating things to me. The two days that Masons were killed were both days that a Mason had to be killed. If the scum didn’t make the exact right calls on both of those days, the game would’ve ended with a Mason win. Damn you, scum!

Another reason I’d love to look at the Mafia thread. Both of you were killed by nesta and that makes the question: nesta did Blaster Master give you instructions? Or did you figure out Millit was a Mason by yourself? Did tirial’s post help you find her?
