This is already being discussed in another thread here in this forum. Short answer is, Cecil knows that she wasn’t, but was running out of space in the print column, so left out the explanation of “a lot of folks think she was a prostitute, but there’s no evidence for that”. The online version of the column, however, has no such length restriction, and has been corrected.
