Yes, agreed.
But isn’t evidence what the post I replied to asked for?
Yes, agreed.
But isn’t evidence what the post I replied to asked for?
Oh, I got a huge raft of shit for that.
“Welcoming,” does not mean universal acceptance of every single syllable out of my mouth. My anti-death-penalty stance also produces vigorous dissent.
But the atmosphere was welcoming, and still is.
Maybe they think I’m Scottish, and take sugar in my porridge.
So if immigration policy ever comes up in discussion, Bricker, do you get the impression they feel uncomfortable talking about it in front of you?
When did they join the Republican party? 1955?
But to be fair, a lot of it is regional. Republicans in NYC vote Republican locally and Democrat nationally. That’s how you end up with Republican NYC mayors for 20 years while voting overwhelmingly Democrat during Presidential elections.
A lot of Republicans try to ignore the tolerance (to a point) of racism in their party and try to focus on taxes/entitlements or abortion/gay marriage, but they can’t win national elections without the racists so they tolerate them and in some cases blow dog whistles at them. It is the price of power.
I think it is dawning on some Republicans that they the racists are hurting them more than helping them in national elections but they can’t figure out how to disentangle them from the racists without losing a shitload of local elections, they don’t want to take that long walk in the desert that they barely averted after Bush. They remember what it was like being the perpetual minority party and they don’t remember it fondly.
Why, oh why does anyone attempt to discusss anything with magellan? My first experience with his “style” brought me to this conclusion:
I don’t recall seeing any change in his method.
See, what’s weird, Monty, is how you appear to think this thread is about magellan01. I guess the title threw you off the scent.
I’m not going to bother searching the whole thread as I’ll get a million hits, I’m just wondering if magellan’s brought up the standard “racial isn’t racist” shibboleth again?
Epitome and exemplar are synonyms, though.
No. The only time I ever got the slightest hint of something similar was several years ago when an “English only,” requirement for state forms/driving tests was being discussed and I got the sense of “OK, I know how you probably feel,” before I offered up any indication of how I felt.
For the life of me, I can’t fathom why anyone might think the underlined sentence here to be true. The GOP obviously should be, and is, delighted when non-whites, or victims of GOP policies, join it. They’ve gone out of their way to appoint Blacks to high positions, including the Supreme Court.
Blacks and Hispanics are welcomed to the GOP with the same eager hospitality as lawyers are welcomed to heaven.
Not quite, and the difference is crucial. Better check your dictionary.
I don’t think you answered the question at all
Sure I did. You asked, “Consider that you’re wrong and the GOP is a racist party. What behaviors and evidence would they exhibit different from what they are now?”
My answer was that a racist party would probably not be welcoming to a Hispanic as a member, all things being equal.
I refuted this above. I guess the GOP welcomes Hispanics who are unable to read.
No, you didn’t refute it.
You did offer an potential explanation. But you’ll notice that despite your compelling logic, the KKK does not welcome Hispanics or blacks to their ranks. So your comment is obviously not true for all racist organizations. It might, or might not, be true for the GOP, but it’s simply your conjecture and not a refutation.
No one’s interested in your semantic games or jury-bamboozling rhetoric. It would amuse us to know if you’re capable of learning, or of changing your stupid opinions. Do you still idolize Karl Rove?
This is but one example of an attitude displayed by many on theses boards. People conflate a response that disagrees with a particular point with a post that proves that the position is wrong or invalid.
Wow, magellan01 found the thread.
You didn’t consider it. You stuck with the premise that the GOP is not racist and used yourself to explain it.
