Neither. He was trying to save your cerebrospinal fluid from boiling over, which I am told is the sad fate of anyone who reads that thread.
I’ve already told you I’m not discussing this with you until YOU disavow judging ME by my race. The fact that you can’t bring yourself to do that says pretty much everything.
Have I ever said I don’t see race? Of course I do.
But I know that I have an obligation not to judge people based on the race I see. THAT is the difference.
No, just the opposite.
But you think you do - you keep telling me you know what I think. You think you can do that because you know my race.
The irony is staggering.
Bullshit. You’re full of shit. I don’t support that at all.
You don’t know what I support. Only I do. And I’m not going to tell you if you continue to insist that you can make up what’s in my mind for me, whether it’s because of my race or any other reason. What’s the point of that?
Got it?
What else can we do to keep you from telling us things?
Ha! It’s like the opposite of interrogation.
Outterrogation, I guess. Intrarrogation?
Right; trying to preserve everyone’s precious essences, really. No one should revisit that thread.
You’re genuinely too stupid to see the irony in that post, aren’t you?
It’s hard to believe, but I’m convinced he is. If he’s not, he’s the most brilliant troll I’ve ever encountered.
Opposed to drawing conclusions based evidence. I think you hit the nail on the head.
It doesn’t rise to the level of pettifoggery.
What magellan01 and LS seem to engage in frequently is the routine defense of racists on the grounds that there is a remote possibility that the intent of the racist might not be racist. Now maybe this is because the are huge fans of formal logic. But the fact that it is always applied to the usual causes of run of the mill bigots (race, gays, religion, etc.) would seem to suggest otherwise.
Personally, I don’t buy that LS is a liberal. I think he is Steven Colberting us.
I’d put him more at the Steven Seagal level. Maybe he can work his way up to Steven Weber in time, but he’s miles from Steven Colbert.
Consider that you’re wrong and the GOP is a racist party. What behaviors and evidence would they exhibit different from what they are now?
Too complicated - he’ll assume you’re just calling him wrong and declaring the GOP racist.
Or perhaps more likely, he’ll reply “So you’re saying I’m wrong and the GOP is racist? Cite?”
I don’t know if you recall the chronology but I didn’t find out your race and THEN say “oh you must be a racist” I heard your thoughts (read your posts) and deduced that you were a white male because you displayed a perspective that is most commonly found among white males. THEN you confirmed that you were a white male. I didn’t even start off implying that you were racist (although that is the way you heard it), I said that your perspective as a white male blinded you and made it difficult to be objective.
I am judging you based on your posts, not your race. I suspect that you are not the only white male posting on this board but I don’t know if any of them are as blind to white privilege as you are (well a few of them are but not many).
Race neutral is not the same thing as not being racist. When arguments of race neutrality are used to perpetuate a racist status quo, then race neutrality is racist. You think you aren’t racist because you are being race neutral in a world that is not.
Like I said, I knew your race based on what you think. Remember the chronology? You said a bunch of shit, then I said “I bet you are white and probably a male” and then you flipped out. The truth hurts dude, just relax and don’t tense up, it will hurt less that way.
Indeed.
So you don’t think you were communicating anything about your thinking in all these posts?
Of course we know what you are thinking. You can tell a lot about a person by what he writes and how he writes it. I’m not saying you’re a bad person or an irredeemable racist, I’m saying that you have a perspective that makes it harder for you to see racism than if you were black and frankly I think some black people see more racism than is actually there. From my perspective, I think model minorities like Jews and Asians (particularly Jews because they have gone so mainstream) have a particularly objective perspective of racism in society.
Our opinions are all informed by our perspective, none of us can be objective and it is awfully tempting for a white male to look around and conclude that the world is relatively fair already. And while I don’t think you are irredeemably racist, we could replace you with a closet racist and your opinions and positions would be almost identical, although intent would vary.
BTW, I am somewhat awed by your ability to convert a thread pitting magellan as a racist into a pit of you (in part based on race issues) despite the fact that magellan has probably exhibited more racism since Christmas than you have in your entire life. If it was intentional, then you are gifted, if it was not, then you are a prodigy.
Oh, well, sure. Its not a particularly interesting, coherent, or enlightening thread but if you needed to see more evidence of Lance’s posting habits, its at least a data point.
I’m active in my local and state GOP party, and am Hispanic. If they were a racist party, I would not have been welcomed as warmly as I was.

That’s not really a logically supported conclusion. Among possibilities:
(a) they’re racist against blacks, not hispanics
(b) the national party is racist, the local one in your area isn’t
(c) they’re racist in a macro sense (at a policy/group level), but not in a micro sense (person to person)
(d) Their treatment of you is some form of tokenism or trying-too-hard. Treating you well helps them convince themselves that they’re not racist, when in fact they are.
I agree that their treating you well is EVIDENCE that they’re not racist, but it’s only evidence, not proof.
Well, you’re obviously the right kind of Hispanic.
Republican racism at the national level doesn’t preclude them from liking individuals. and as everyone here can attest, you are a very likable guy…
There is also the bit that historically Hispanics were not treated as bad as blacks in the south, I still remember reading cases of black players that managed to play as Hispanics in baseball before segregation was over, but they were found out and fired when their real origins were revealed. There is also the item that not all Hispanics are brown, there are a lot of Hispanics that are white.
But if we got for anecdotes, my crazy relative from Florida is involved with the Republicans over there and he is beginning to act up again. Suffice to say that his Facebook spam is still turning up the racism against Obama to 11. Several examples from his “friends” are images of witch doctors with bones in their noses as the “new doctors you will get under Obamacare” I have not unfriended him because I’m always interested about the new media and the bubbles of information the rank and file Republicans have.
All I have to say is that **Bricker **is lucky or he is missing a lot of what is going in the background.
Did you tell them you voted for Obama or were at least thinking about it? They might not have said anything racist, but they wouldn’t have been as welcoming. But in all fairness, I used to be active as a Democrat, and even slightly supportive comments about Republicans will get someone the cold shoulder.
I know a lot of Republicans who are definitely not racist. I also know a lot who are. The non-racist ones are appalled at what their party has become and are thinking of leaving. Just anecdotal and not a sample.
I had a friend with the last name “Miller” once. He was 100 percent Mexican and as white as I am. Very nice thoughtful fellow for a Republican.
Maybe they think Bricker’s “one of the good ones.”
