Magickal languages.

[sub]Mods, I’m posting this here also because I’m not sure if I’ll get a better response here or in GQ. [I do not intend to violate the rules of the board, but if I am, can you just close the thread in GQ? thanks.][/sub]

Ok, I’m on a search for a good website that will give me information on magickal languages and also some of them. I’m looking more for an alternative glyph system, not a language that has different words and grammatical structure. [So languages that work like, say, French, isn’t what I’m looking for.] My friend Emily gave me a url about this, and for some reason I’m a dumb :wally and lost/forgot it. If you can help me out, this would be great. Thanks.

I don’t know if there are any websites out there for it, but do a web search for “Enochian.” It was one of the most popular magickal languages back when I was Aurum Solis.

You could always try Celtic…

I prefer that or Latin, m’self

I saw an article in Dragon magazine, many years about, about glyphs and runes. I was reminded of these by a friend, recently. He was taking notes in a language like this… Well, it’s hard to reproduce in ASCII. But I wrote out the key here.

A|B|C
D|E|F
G|H|I

\ J /
KXL
/ M\

N.|.O.|.P
Q:|:R:|:S
T[sup].[/sup]|[sup].[/sup]U[sup].[/sup]|[sup].[/sup]V

\ W. /
X[sup].[/sup]X[sup].[/sup]Y
/ [sup].[/sup]Z\

Basically, each letter occupies a section of a cross hatch (#) or an X. To signify the leter, instead write the border of the space it occupies. For instance, “| || |" signifies “ABC”. “/ > < /” signifies “JKLM”, etc. The latter half of the alphabet is dotted, so ".| |..| |._” is “NOP” and “./ .> <. /[sup].[/sup]” is “WXYZ”. Does that make sense?

Just go dig up a book on Ye Olde English. Or buy an Ultima game.

Great question!
Just did a search on the languages used in the books of J.J.R. Tolkien…

How about the site listed below?

http://www.uib.no/People/hnohf/

They typically don’t publish this on the web but the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (http://www.goldendawn.org/) (Crowley was a member I believe) uses a magical language based on weird looking glyphs and things. Supposedly it is based on Hebrew but I am skeptical about it. They have a website out there somewhere. The Rosicrucians (http://www.rosicrucian.org/)(the Poet Yeats was a Rosicrucian, I believe) also use a magickal language supposedly based on ancient Egyptian languages but that is another one I am skeptical about.

Though the languages/script may not be available on the website themselves, the Golden Dawn publishes enough books that have them with instructions on how to decode it that you shouldn’t have a problem finding it. The Rosicrucians on the other hand are more secretive and if you want to see what their language/script looks like you will have to sign up for one of their courses.

So you know, the Golden Dawn is more of a religious order (I believe “Golden Dawn” actually refers to their magickal practices) whereas the Rosicrucians are more of a philosophical order (they have no particular religious affiliation and report that you can have any religion prior and during your stay with them.
