Anyway… thats market for you. What flourishes isn’t what has the msot merit and its definately not what has the most depth, its whatever is the most marketable.
I’m sorry, did you assume Twilight was great literture?
I don’t know what can be done about it. Support obscure bands and promote them? Have small bands sell thier music online?
Complaing probably isn’t construtive, but I guess thats what this sub forum is for
I saw them a year ago with the Texas Ditchdiggers, John Fitzgerald Remedy, Ovum, Silver Shank, The Coalminer’s Daughters, Alabaster Ebony, Urban Thrall, The Desert Stevedores, The Planning and Groaning Commission, Rambler '64, Subcutaneous, Mind the Gap, Lemon, The Trailer Park Philharmonic, The Cigars, The Jewpopes, Frodo Unit, Los Alamos, Red Light Green Light, Taint, Candy Van, The Crabs, Mellophant, Highway To Swell, Utah Blue Book, Apartheid, Ransacked Flour, Donkey Show, The Picky Eaters, The September Thirty Firsts, The Joy of Concrete, Flow, The Piss Quivers, Tree of Life, Buck LeSabre, Uncle Pauly’s Hairpiece, Canker, The Travis County Mutineers, The Shaker Heights Mafia, The British Version, Flotsam, Saudi Aurora, Hanglady, Üüüüüü, The Foamers and the King Cnuts.
Were they at that show with The Autotones, Ferrous Wheel, My Left Aquasock, Redd Foxx, Bigger than a Breadbasket, The Stinking Leeches, Hoof Arted, April’s New Dress, Skateboard Confessional, Todd’s Reverie, Squirt, The Wax Lips, Hardly Unamused, Charlie Brown’s Dog, Wheelie, Cousin Dickhead, Cuckoo Clock, Upstream, Tits on a Boar Hog, The Sugar Baker Boys, Autumn Romance, Five Lucky Gnomes, The Autogyros, Safe Under the Covers, Rainbow Yawn, The Giggity Giggities, Dropbear, Two Times a Lady, Sister Fister, Wayne’s Prosthetic Eyebrows, Tennis Skirt, The Lovely Parasols, Imitation Soy, Rainy Monday, Brunch with Granma Rae, The Deaf Moles, Soviet Bluejeans, and What Happened to Bud?
Or, you know, he could have read the stickie in ATMB that lists them. Which is what happened, since I told him if he was going to post here he should read that.
Dude, you call yourself a music fan? Everybody knows it was Mister Fister at that show. Sister Fister has gone so mainstream, since one of their tracks is on a compilation CD of Columbus scene bands with the Flaming Cuyahogas, The Wafers, Kosher Pork Biscuits, The Pitcairn Island Transit Authority, Mope, The Seeing Eye Wolverines, Jesus Christ Pornostar, Honey Do, Cornhat, The Fucks, Dutch Range, The Toledophiles, Extra Cheese, Chris Hansen’s Seat, Marry Merry Mary, The Sanjays, Cartman, Herd of Ghosts, Old Number Five, Slowkitty, The Dayton Secret Police, Knob, Spanish Flu, Jiminy Carter, Banned In Xenia, Queen Liver, Pain Bread, The Jukes, Lucy Lucid And The Dreamers, Balls of Mud, Rhymes With Orange, The Fluoroscopes, Maiden China, The Carburetors, Recliner Shiner, Bodyblow, St. Vincent And The Grenadines, The Barn Doors, The Black Pugs, Billions and Billions, Deputy Enos, Northern Dark, Red Shamrock, The Grocer’s Apostrophe’s, The Neros, Speedbrisket, The Scabs, The Joy Farmers, and The Grizzly Madams.
I much prefer the Flaming Shitmonkeys. Not in the same league as truly underground bands such as Macrohard, Michael Moore and the Holidays in the Sun, Tappanzee Cantilever, Homo Erectus, Og Kush, Porno for Pyrolysis, Duckin Reficulous, Kensington, Dawn of War, Dictionary of Chemistry, Your Mom, The Guns of August, PC Load Letter, Botanica, Beavers and Butthairs, The Fountainblow, James Q. Moonraker, Leia Shot First, or Death By Snooker, but they have some awesome tracks.
We get some pretty good live music around here, too. Just in the past few months I’ve seen The Canadian Bar Association, Sharting Farmers, Brainberry, A Sofa Named Bobby, Hans Device, The Marx Sisters, Judas-In-Law, Shadow Pez, Guitary McSingy, The Newts, Olive Lucite, Woody & the Vernal Equinox, Baseball Penalty, Uncle Becky, Oblong “Blinky” Guffaw, Shallot, Road Mung, Calico Sandwich, My Middle Gonad, Carnal Vortex, The Pencilnecks, and Cock of Christ.
I’ll be checking the local papers to see who’s in town this weekend.
Didn’t they also go by The Furious Shih Tzus, Infinity Minus One, The Orbs, Dreadnought, Miss Wisconsin, The Meter Readers, The Meatflaps, Ausfahrt, Timmy’s Helmet, Choose Your Destiny, The Homeosexuals, Capital Schwa, and most recently, the Natural Socialists?
I’m going way back to remember that comp (what was it, 3 years ago?), but wasn’t it on that big corporate label that also signed The Virginia Plan, Radical Sabbatical, Noah’s Dinosaur, Turkish Delight, Life of a Salesman, The Clogging Arteries, Plunger Breath, Big Wave Dave and the Nurse Sharks, How it Happened to Sarah, Winnie the Poop, Percy and the Fag Hags, Snarf’s Paws, The Dancing Plums, Mother Theresa’s Porn Stash, Bucket List, The Nights of Columbus, Zitpop, Have-a-Tampa, Staff, Terry and the Taint-Teasers, Nostrildamus, Skinny Albert, Thanks for the Beer, Godzilla Egg, Shanksville Plot, Band Camp, Doug’s Last Hope, Booger Sugar, Kissing Frogs, Nails, The Goobersmoochers, High on Pheremones, Burnt Cup, Saliva Breath, The Snoogans, Larry Lapper and the Lesbians, Bread and Butter, Yield, Bubble Gum Machine Gun, Vladamir and Estragon, Sally Matters, The Beautiful Uglies, Milkrocket, Those Damn Aarons, Hotbox, The Gimp, Stupid Mimes, and Joe Son Dough?
I’m looking through these lists, looking for band names that were actually used by bands around here.:p:p:p
After all, I was a fan of Sad Pygmy, before they broke up and half of them became Rusted Shut Amerika. Also had a friend who used to play in a band called Primer Gray Erection, which is just an absolutely great name for a band.
My fave local band name, though, has to be “The Killbillies” (a psychobilly band). Lead singer’s stage name:“Willie Killigan.” Extra bonus: from the town of Cut-And-Shoot, Texas. Yes, they really are.
Please note: none of the above is a fabrication. Swear to Gawd.
I’m pretty sure the Texas Ditchdiggers are in fact a country swing band, but that’s not really my genre.
If I ever sing in a band again (highly unlikely), I hope we call it “Frieda’s eyebrow.”
I think so, but I know I’ve seen their members in The Magyar Torpedoes, Five on the Floor, I Killed Scout, No Rest for the Drying, John McCain and the Kenyans, and Magic Sword of Love.
