Major statement at 14:00 GMT re: IRA decommissioning

Not mundane or pointless but MPSIMS seems like the place to put this.

If you have interest in Irish politics you may want to be watching the news in half an hour. It looks like the IRA have decommissioned ALL their arms.

Let’s hope it’s enough. This war is over. It’s a dead fucking parrot and may it stay that way.

Of course, it’s important not to downplay the terrible atrocities of the past, but the opposing camps are starting to sound more and more whiny about this whole thing “We just don’t belieeeeeve them”, not to mention more and more desparate to maintain the conflict.

In fairness it’s really only the Unionists who are whinny about this. I can see their point though. From what I’ve heard about this statement is that it will include lists of the actual ordainance decommissioned. This is what the Unionists have been calling for. If it happens this way they’ll have little wiggle room to complain.

Only a few mins. away so we will soon see…
crosses everything

The still left room for people to complain about no actual solid details.

They have siad they are convinced that all arms have been destroyed but is that enough for the people who want to destroy the Good Friday Agreement?

This looks like another good day.

I kind of assumed that whining was an important and designed part of the process. If everybody’s whining about compliance with the peace process, then everybody’s emphasising its importance as the only game in town - spending less time doing violent stuff and marginalising those who would prefer to stick to such a route.

Peace doesn’t make problems go away. It just changes how they’re addressed.

Amen.

I’m not caught up, are the Ulsters disarming as well?

there have been no acts of decomissioning by any of the Loyalist paramilitary groups.
