Make a DVD Chain

Here’s the rules:

  1. Take any movie from your DVD collection.

  2. Name another movie from your collection, that features the same actor.

  3. Name another movie you own that has another actor from the second movie.

  4. Repeat steps 2-3 until you can’t.

  5. For trilogies and other sequels (Star Wars, LOTR, Lethal Weapon) you can only use a second movie for three consecutive actors if the first and last actors are not in the same movie. For example, you can go from Gary Busey to Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon I, and then from Gibson to Joe Pesci in Lethal Weapon II, but you can’t go from Busey to Gibson to Danny Glover.

Example:

I have Monty Python and the Holy Grail featuring Michael Palin.
I also have Time Bandits with Michael Palin and Sean Connery.
Connery --> Harrison Ford --> Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Ford --> Anthony Daniels --> Return of the Jedi.
Daniels --> Christopher Lee --> Revenge of the Sith.
Lee --> Orlando Bloom --> Fellowship of the Ring.
Bloom --> Pirates of the Caribbean.

I have no DVDs with any other actors from Pirates, so my chain is done.

How far can you get?

I have 4 DVDs. No links at all between them.

What do I win?

(Note to sciurophobic: Get “Coupling” Seasons 1-3. While it was a TV show, it adds to your chain and great stuff too.)

I have “Oklahoma” and “Carousel” which both feature Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones.
Victor Spinnetti was in “A Hard Day’s Night”, “Help!” and “Magical Mystery Tour.”
After that, I got nothin’.

“Galaxy Quest” has Justin Long
Justing Long is in “Dodgeball” with Vince Vaugn
Vince Vaugh -> Jeremy Piven in “Old School”
Jeremy Piven -> anyone else in “PCU”

That’s all I got.

John Cusack in ‘High Fidelity’
Cusack —> Joan Cusack in ‘Grosse Point Blank’
Cusack —> Jack Black in ‘School of Rock’
Black —> Fred Willard in ‘Anchorman’
Willard —> Parker Posey in ‘Best in Show’
Posey —> Ben Affleck in ‘Dazed and Confused’
Affleck —> Jason Lee in ‘Dogma’
Lee —> Frances McDormand in ‘Almost Famous’
McDormand —> Robert Downey Jr. in ‘Wonder Boys’
Downey Jr. —> Tommy Lee Jones in ‘US Marshals’
Lee Jones —> Harrison Ford in ‘The Fugitive’
Ford —> Allison Janney in ‘Six Days, Seven Nights’ (I didn’t want to admit I own this, haha)
Janney —> I’m stuck.

That is a bad representation of the movies I own. I own even cooler ones that those, hah.

Dang, I can never resist playing these things.

McKellan with a ton of people in The Lord of the Rings

and I’m stopping there, although I’m afraid I could probably keep going. Either I own too many DVDs, or it’s cheating to play with the imdb open, or both.

Double-dang. Once I start, I can’t leave it unfinished.

McKellan with Elijah Wood in The Fellowship of the Rings
Wood with Kirsten Dunst in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Dunst with Alfred Molina in Spider-man 2
