A challenge for you dopers, which is to come up with the longest movie name chain you can. Basically, you chain movie names together that share the same last and first words, e.g.
Die Hard Rain.
This is a chain of the movies Die Hard and Hard Rain, which share the common word ‘hard’. Geddit?
Some rules:
-
You can drop leading (in)definite articles if you want (good luck finding a movie title ending in ‘a’ or ‘the’) So ‘Man with a Golden Gun’ is allowed.
-
The movie has to have meet some yardstick of popularity. I think an entry on IMDB with no fewer than 5000 ratings is a good tentative benchmark to start with.
-
You can only use each title once, even if there are several movies with the same title.
-
Single word titles are allowed, as long as they work with the adjacent links. e.g.
“Super Pi Man” would count as three, as long as the movies ‘Super Pi’, ‘Pi’ and ‘Pi Man’ met the criteria.
To get the ball rolling, here’s my first lacklustre attempt:
They Live and Let Die Hard Rain Man Without a Face/Office Space Jam
Now, I come unstuck on the above because I chain Face/Off with Office Space which involves a partial word, and allowing these would make things too easy so I believe that we should make it a rule that only whole words can be chained. So use my effort only for illustrative purposes.
One thing I am unsure of is plurals, e.g. chaining Notting Hill with Hills Have Eyes. My initial reaction is to disallow this, just to make things more challenging. So exact words only, folks, at least to start with.
