Make Money Donig Online Surveys: What's the Catch?

This site says:

Earn $10 to $80 for filling out online surveys!
Earn $50 to $150 for participating in 30-60mins discussion groups!
Receive product samples, gift vouchers and merchandise!
Earn $5-$30 per hour for watching advanced screenings of movies!

It claims they’ve been featured in Investors Monthly and ABC News as well. I’m so tempted to do this since I need money but this reminds me so much of those work-at-home schemes. Has anyone had any experience with this or any other online survey sites? What is your opinion of this?

Dang! I hate not being able to edit a post after the fact! :smack:

I don’t know the details of how you won’t make any money trying this, but I’m quite certain you won’t. Of course, it only costs you 35 bucks to enrol so you can find out firsthand how it doesn’t work. I can tell you how they make their money.

Get paid to read e-mails (farther down on their site)? Give me a break. Yep, one born every minute.

Duh! I somehow missed the $35 thing. I guess I have my answer.

Well, actually, some sites do you give you say, incentives, to fill out their surveys.
I know of a site that gives you points for each survey etc, and you can exchange them using a kind of market system, into “cash” which you can use to purchase gift certificates and items being sold on their site.

File along with;

Get a car for free!
Yes! Companies are so hard up for advertising space they will give you a car for nothing, just as long as you put their ad on its side and drive it around lots! Send me money and I’ll send you a list of companies you could try!

Pay me $10 and I’ll tell you how to get consumer goods for nothing!
Yes! Send me money and I’ll tell you how to lie to dumb companies so that they just send you stuff without checking or anything! Not illegal (much)!

Get a laptop for $20!
Join our scheme and in 6 months a total stranger will order a laptop for you! Delivered to your door for nothing! It really works! Doesn’t look too much like a pyramid scheme!

Filling out online surveys is like getting paid to click on adverts. It only makes sense if you are living in India and have a free internet connection. Otherwise its not going to earn you enough money to be worth your time or pay for your overheads. And you’re very unlikely to recoup your initial $35 unless you really stick at it.

There are some free sites, and if you register for them and do every survey that comes your way, they might send you $30 or $40 a year.

Which isn’t a lot of money - but if you are already paying for an internet connection and already have time, its money.

I use one that gives you points for reading emails, using their credit card (I use one credit card for online purchases so I figured I might as well get points using it) and such, that you can use for gift certificates and such. I’ve done it for years and gotten a few hundred dollars out of it, most recently $50 in Barnes & Noble gift cards. There are other sites that offer similar incentives. But you won’t really make money doing it. It just provides me with $25-50 in gift cards a year.

Harris Polls is one company that does this; however, I’ve filled out 20-30 surveys so far and have accumulated only enough points to get a $5.00 Burger King coupon. Other companies might be more generous. I’ve kind of given up on Harris.

There are companies that pay for surveys online. Pinecone is one of them. But they only invite new people every so often, and you can’t apply at other times. They’re good - I usually get $5-$10 a month from them. Another one that’s not bad is Mypoints.com - they send you emails and if you complete the offers you get more points which you can exchange for G/C’s and stuff.

These things aren’t going to get you tons of money, but they may get you a few bucks a month.
