So I’ve stepped into the new millenium and bought myself a nice gigantic HDTV (32" LCD Olevia 232T, if that means anything anyone). I went to the jerks at Time Warner, got a new HD cable box, plugged the power cords in, plugged the HDMI cable from the cable box into the back of the new television.
Now I’ve got five pictures of the same channel on the screen, two on the top in normal colors, three on the bottom with their color schemes reversed. There’s no sound coming from anywhere.
Plugging in my XBox360 into the television yields normal performance, so I don’t think it’s the TV’s fault.
And the people at Time Warner are closed for the day, so I can’t yell at them about the box… so I was wondering if anyone here had had this problem (or something similar), and could point me in the right direction of fixing the issue so that I can watch House tonight.
I had a similar symptom once when I accidentally set my Cox HD cable box’s output to the wrong resolution. My set needs 1080i and I had selected 720p from an onscreen menu. Does your setup have a way to call up a menu and check the resolution of the video output?
Didja try to reboot the box? I know you got it all brand new and stuff, but it might need a little help.
Unplug it, wait for it to “spin down.”
Plug it back in. Wait. Waaaaait. Wait until the clock comes back on. I’m serious - wait!
When the clock comes back on, press the power button on on the box to turn it back on.
You may also need to go to the box’s “Settings” menu to set some settings. Which settings, I do not know. That’s half the fun 
Oh and…if your box didn’t come with a manual, Google the make/model and see if the company that makes the box has one online.
Also, the TW central support desk is 24/7. I called them at 8PM on a Sunday, I did. The “stores” have shitty hours but the people sitting at the call center are there right now for you to yell at to your heart’s content.

It was the resolution… and while I managed to fix it just after the TW helpdesk picked up. A reset plus fiddling. Why didn’t I think of the fiddling!?!
