Make our representatives live on military bases

In my humble opinion…
United States representatives (Congress and Senate) should be made to live on a military base in, or near, Washington D.C.
They should live in base housing, shop at the commissary and the Base Exchange, and use the other base facilities. I have done it for years, as have many thousands of others. It is pleasant, not a hardship, but not the life style of the rich-n-famous. This would save the states and Uncle Sam hundreds of millions of dollars.

I think, this way, we could be assured that people running for office are genuinely interested in serving the public, not themselves. They would not have to worry about finding a mansion to rent, entertain lobbyists, hiring servants, throwing parties. They would live on base with their family, go to work and serve the public. Just like they are supposed to do. If it is good enough for our military, it should be good enough for our lawmakers.

Now, knowing that these folks would never-in-Hell let such a thing happen, how could we, the citizens, enact such a thing? Short of an open revolt.

Thanks for the chuckle, madd1!

“More mystery meat with your SOS, Senator?”

How much exactly do you think we are paying our representatives? Wouldn’t you acknowledge that the work they do is more important per person than what the average grunt does? Or that many of them are wealthy prior to being elected, and aren’t in it for the money? Or that much of the money spent is on such things as regularly travelling back to meet with their constituents?

This is the opinion forum.
Let’s not let facts intrude on our happy little fantasy.

I am with you Mad1. I think that all members of congress should be supported at a level equal to the people they are suppose to represent.

Besides, it would be fun to watch a Senitor’s wife have to stand in line at the commissary on payday!

And while standing in line at the commissary, you have to listen to that damn speaker, over and over, NEXT PLEASE… AAAARRRGGG
