Make-Up Identification Question

Some years ago, while on vacation, I purchased a tube of make-up that actually worked - did what it claimed to! Clearly a miracle, and I’ve kept it and used it bit by bit. Now it’s gone, and I want to replace it. Sadly, time, getting dunked in various liquids and the general abrasiveness of life have completely removed all trace of the label.

I turn to the readers of the Dope for help. I don’t need the brand name, I feel sure that if I at least knew what the general name for the type of cosmetic is, I could find something workable. (By general name I mean something like “mascara,” or “foundation” rather than “ultra lash” or something.)

It came in a tube. It is a white creme. I use a very small amount, no more than about twice the head of a pin. I rub it on my finger tips and then tap my fingers on my cheeks. It takes away the redness in my skin. (I use it mostly in winter when my face gets chapped a bit.) It doesn’t add moisture or anything.

I have a vague memory that I looked it up on the internet after I bought it. It seems that it contained some kind of plant essence (whether as active ingredient or window dressing I don’t know) and that it is a vascular constrictor, and shrinks the capillaries in the skin. This paragraph, however, may be pure invention.

Any ideas?

Concealer? Mary Kay makes a good one that fits your description.

If it didn’t conceal or wasn’t tinted green, it’s possible it was a cream that contains Vitamin K.

Sounds like something from Kiehl’s.

You could try asking the ladies at http://www.emakemeup.com - they are very nice and super well-informed when it comes to make-up stuff.

I googled anit-redness cream and this seems to fit the bill. Eye Care Cosmetics

Corrector? (Mine is green.)

I haven’t tried it, but read an article by a dermatologist claiming Visine will do that for you - for pretty cheap.

Thanks to everyone who answered! It isn’t concealer, or anything green, so I don’t want to go that route.

HazelNutCoffee, thanks for the pointer. I should have realized that somewhere on the net, there is a message board dedicated to make-up.

Dangerosa, I’ll try the Visine. As you say, it’s cheap.

I saw a commercial for Eucerin Redness Relief this morning and thought of this thread. Maybe it’s something similar.
