"Make Way For Ducklings"

My favorite childhood book. I was finally able to fulfill a long-standing wish and visit Boston - and a few friends - Mrs Mallard and Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Ouack, Pack, and Quack.

Cool! I remember the story well from when I was a kid (growing up in Boston), and when my wife was pregnant my Mom sent us a copy to read to our son.

One thing though: am I the only one who goes :dubious: at the part about Mr. Mallard wanting to “explore” further up the river for a week?

Awww! That’s so cute!

Make Way for Ducklings was the very first book I ever wrote a book report on when I was in first grade.

I don’t remember it particularly from my own childhood, but I have read it many times with my own children. The oldest is now just about 8, the next oldest just turned 6 and the youngest is 3-1/2.

And yet it took my second child to point out to me a few weeks ago that Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Ouack, Pack, and Quack were named in an alphabetic sequence (J through Q).

Clever girl! (And silly me!)

My mom still has the copy of this book she read when she was a child, which is the same copy my brother and I read as a child.

“Weebk!”
