Aid workers freed from Taliban arrive in Pakistan
CHAKLALA AIR BASE, Pakistan, Nov 15 (Reuters) - Eight foreign aid workers detained by the Taliban on charges of spreading Christianity arrived in Islamabad on Thursday after their dramatic rescue from Afghanistan by U.S. special forces.

They arrived at the Chaklala military air base in Islamabad after they were lifted to freedom by U.S. helicopters that swooped into a field in central Afghanistan. They left the airport in a motorcade, apparently en route to their embassies.

The two Americans, two Australians and four Germans – all working for German-based Shelter Now International (SNI) – had been arrested by the Taliban in Kabul in early August on charges of promoting Christianity in the deeply Islamic country.

The charges – which all eight have denied – can carry the death penalty.

The foreign detainees are Australians Peter Bunch and Diana Thomas, Americans Dayna Curry and Heather Mercer, and Germans Georg Taubmann, Katrin Jelinek, Margrit Stebner and Silke Durrkopf.

Made me feel good. I was sitting in a bar reading the article about the aid workers, when CNN said they had been released. Good stuff.

OTOH, (statement about hoping that people who preach religion in prohibited areas realize the risks, and accept them, even inprisonment by a harsh regime.)

But I’m really glad they were released.
