I have decided to make a beret for myself. Can anyone here tell me what material to use, and where I can get it? I want to make just the standard black one.

Felt is typical. Originally wool felt, but I’m sure felt from other materials can give the same look and feel.
As to where to get it…I would assume a fabric store, but I’m not into making clothes myself, so I wouldn’t know enough to recommend a manufacturer or store.
Heavyweight milliners felt.
Not the kind of felt kids use in craft projects.
Your local fabric store will help or point you in the right direction.
