Making lemonade from lemons

I wanted to go out to a dark spot tonight to take some more Milky Way / Perseids photos tonight. I had arranged with my friend to drive out of the city this evening, because this was my last free night this week. At 5pm, it looked like there would be a break in the clouds, but after dinner it started to get cloudy again. I decided to drive out to his house anyway, and on the way over it became clear that a major storm was rolling in from the east. We decided to go out and try to take some lighting photos, and this was the best one of the evening:

So, at least I got a decent shot - next up, the Leonids.

Aye, very nice shot.

ETA: How do you take that kind of pic? Shutter on a timer and hope you get lucky? Or do you manually trigger?

Lightning is bright!
So, you can use a small aperture (f/8 in this case) and low ISO (200), and take long exposures without blowing out the night sky. I was taking 30 second exposures, and hoping to catch a bolt. The storm was very, very active - there was almost continuous lightning on the horizon, so I caught quite a few bolts this way. This one was the best.

So you can make lemonade from leonids?

I certainly hope so!

Another great picture.

It’s overcast here tonight too, unfortunately.

… I was hoping for lemonade recipes.

Hum.

Yeah, shouldn’t this be in CS? And have more recipes?

I actually do make lemonade from my lemons…
I do it by taste - the juice from something like 4-5 big lemons, mixed with as much sugar as will dissolve in 1 pint of water, mixed together and then diluted to make 1 quart.

Hey, that is just the kind of shot I like using as background on my computer. Do you mind?

I would be honored to have you use it!

Done. It’s gorgeous. And I’m extra pleased that it’s Doper-created.
