Male Dopers: recommend me some underwear.

I wear one and only one kind of underwear, Hanes boxer briefs. I think they’re very comfortable, and girls like them. I will never wear anything else.

Two material suggestions: CoolMax and Smartwool. Smartwool is not as hot as you would think as it breathes very well.

I wear practically any kind of underwear that doesn’t have “brief” in the description - boxer briefs, briefs or bikini [briefs]. I have these huge elephant thighs and the material just is too tight there if they fit me in the waist.

My suggestion is a jockstrap, just for aesthetic reasons. I wear them occasionally as underwear. Target sells a 5-pk of thongs (don’t laugh!) that are comfortable and supportive. My 5-days-a-week wear though is just regular boxers.

(So I don’t know how much help I actually was, but I got to complain about my body ;))

I am not following your answer. Could you reformulate?

IMO, boxer-briefs are the best looking style of regular men’s underwear. I mean, sure, there are various styles that look better, but those styles are meant mostly to impress someone. For everyday wear, boxer briefs look best on most guys. YMMV.

Do they make boxer briefs for skinnyer guys. I’ve always thought they looked really comfortable but every pair I’ve tried fits me more like boxers then breifs. (I HATE boxers, I always wear breifs, and usually a little to small too, I don’t like anything moving down there). BTW I’m 5’ 7ish (maybe taller, don’t remember) and about 150lbs.

Let’s trade, because I always thought they ONLY made them for smaller guys - the legbands practically cut off circulation to my feet!

I’m the same size/weight as you and find boxer briefs that fit fine - just go for size small.

I have taken the advice offered by my fellow Dopers and am now a resident (or perhaps visitor) of Boxerbriefville.

I picked up a four-pack of Hanes BB’s at Wallyworld a few days ago. The Boss and his Boys are happier, but I’m not sure that I am.

In order to make them happy, I have to wear the BB’s so high that the waistline is roughly two inches above my pants waistline*, and I do not belong to that demographic, as mentioned above. Are Low-Rise BB’s available?

*Which I attribute to “No-Ass” syndrome.

Men should wear boxer briefs, period.

Children wear briefs.

Idiots wear boxers.

The modern man wears boxer briefs. They support and give a flattering profile. There is no reason that a man should wear anything else.

Amen brother.

I have heard good things about Aussiebum, as they make underwear in different proportional types, but I’ve never bothered to purchase any due to the price. Having gone commando since I was thirteen or so, It isn’t a problem for me.

JoeyP, You are roughly the same height and weight as me (I’m 10 lbs heavier) but if you are well-endowed your best bet will be boxer briefs or nothing. I don’t bother any more as they simply don’t make a proportional cup/waist band/leg width size for me. (34’ waist)

I’ve never understood going commando - I used to have a FWB who never wore underwear and his crotch used to stink. I had to order him into the shower before we did anything together. Also doesn’t it just mean that you have to clean your trousers more often?

Here’s the problem for me, I don’t like anything moving around, for that reason I won’t wear boxers (and commando would never even cross my mind), that’s why I wear breifs. The thing about briefs is that they keep everything more or less where I put it, nothing can fall beyond the leg band. The only way for boxer breifs to accomplish this is to have fairly tight legs and I haven’t found a pair with tight enough legs but not meant for someone considerably smaller then myself. I’ll keep my eyes open, like I said, they look (and as I recall from trying some on fell as well) alot more comfortable, but I haven’t found a pair that allows me to dress UP (as opposed to left or right).

Well I do take a moment longer to shake everything out properly since I don’t have anything between me and my pants. I haven’t noticed any difference in odor due exclusively to underwear choice. Here in Florida’s summer, I’m glad for the breeze in my shorts, as well as the freedom of motion. It keeps me noticeably drier and free from “swamp ass and crotch” than wearing ANY undergarment. On very hot days I might toss a little talcum powder to assist, but that is a rarity. I get three to five days mileage out of a pair of shorts barring undue sweating or outside soiling.

I haven’t found anything that fits well and loosely enough to accommodate my need for motion, that doesn’t have length issues as well. I’m well endowed and have low hanging testicles that don’t work out well with traditional boxers. Briefs and boxer briefs neither have room enough in my waist size nor any freedom of motion. Anything else is just like fetish wear, and I don’t see the point.

I have been a member of the Man Club for, lo, these many years, and nobody bothered to tell me this?

Harumph.

I’m very disappointed in the rest of you.

Another solider in the boxerbrief rebellion. They’re the best deal in junk covers, no doubt about it. Once I tried my first pair of fruit of the looms on, it was out with the tighty-whities, and go-go boxerbrief!

Now, i’ve taken it a step higher. I’ve gotten myself some underarmour boxerjocks.
Sweet Lord are these things awesome. I don’t sweat, the “loved one, carefully cupping your junk” feeling is replaced by “loved one/experienced erotic provider carefully cupping your junk in a silk glove” feeling and they wash and dry faster. They are expensive though, which blows, but they’re worth every penny
The downside is that they’re slippery, so if you’re not the kinda chap who tucks the shirt in the pants, it may be a battle, but they’re awesome none-the-less.

For those of y’all having issues with the legs on boxer-briefs, look for ones marketed as “low-rise trunks.” They’re kind of square-cut instead of with legs, and I find them much more comfortable.

And, yes, boxer-briefs come in low-rise. Only buy low-rise. High pants are the Debil’s work.

You can get Joe Boxer at Kmart in the U.S. They run about $10 for a 2-pack.
Sizes are inconsistant though for some reason.

Do you recall what brand or brands?
