This is common in Egypt. I don’t know if it’s historically Middle Eastern or if it was imported by the French under their rule.
This is quite normal in the U.S. although you must clap the other man on the back a couple of times to signify “this is not a gay hug.”
On the other hand, a firm cupping of the buttocks is required to signify “this is a gay hug”.
Or you do the “man hug”, where you shake hands first, and keep the right hands and arms in between so as to minimize torso contact and absolutely, at all costs, prevent hip or groin contact.
