Mallard Fillmore misses the bus again

You almost have to feel sorry for Bruce Tinsley. He’s trying so hard to be topical but he’s so clueless, he misses time after time.

This week’s Mallard Fillmore is all about how the liberal controlled media hasn’t stopped running stories about the Cheney shooting. Undoubtedly, in Tinsley’s mind it was a foregone conclusion a few weeks back when he was writing these strips, that the liberal controlled media would never stop hounding the vice president. Now here it is four weeks later and where’s the only place in the media where you can still see the accident being mentioned? That’s right, Mallard Fillmore.

Maybe Cheney needs to go duck hunting and pop ol’ Mallard a good one.

Is it OK to wish death on a cartoon character?

To be fair, there’s also The Daily Show, which just yesterday did a piece on the canned-hunt business of shooting farm-raised quailtards.

If only they had been shooting mallards!

Wait a minute! What about all those attack cartoons Warner Bros. made back in the '50s? Just try and tell me Elmer Fudd isn’t a caricature of Cheney, and the whole “Wabbit season! Duck Season!” thing isn’t an allusion to his little incident.

Clearly, this was all staged by Moveon.org to embarrass the Vice President. Damn liberals anyway.

Tinsley tries to be topical, but he’s too lazy to run on a short deadline, as Trudeau does. He’s also to lazy to write six jokes a week, so poor Mallard has to tell the same tired gag for a week. Oy. Liberal Education Strawman, Liberal Press Strawman, Liberal Hollywood Strawman, and then, just for grins, let’s quote a BS “fact” from a John Leo column. No wonder the duck is so grouchy.

I think Mallard has a point. After all, Bill Clinton (trying marijuana once) and Al Gore (claiming he “invented” the internet) both did MUCH WORSE things than shoot an old man in the face, and yet the media never referred to these events again after they initially took place. Damn liberal media!!!

On the topic of clueless right-wing political comics, “Prickly City” also pulled a boner a couple of days ago in saying something like "They’re letting a questionable foreign government run [the ports], isn’t there an American company that could do it? Which hits the bullshit meter on 3 counts…

  1. The ports deal is dead.
  2. As per norm for this strip, whenever they have to acknowledge a right-wing slipup to maintain the pretense of “balance”, it’s either blamed on Cheney or an unidentified “they”. Never on the golden child Bush, ever.

What a perfectly crappy little piece of partisan hackwork. And to make matters worse, the Atlanta papers run it in the “funnies” section, not in the political strip section. I guess they understand that it’s for a child-minded audience, and running it next to Doonesbury or The Boondocks would show it as the farcical propaganda that it is.

Sorry for the hijack, back to the duck-bashing.
